i am wanting to start hand calling alot. i recently bought a critrcall standard and will use it very soon, i like it. i want to buy a sceery also, but everyone list the ap6 and ap7 together. does one do something the other doesn't? which is the better all around choice? i will some day buy them all, but for right now i want to know which one to get, the ap6 or ap7.

The AP-6 is a semi-open reed call with the voice sandwiched between two bite channels. The literature says its for the advanced caller, but I find it to be one of the easiest calls to learn and use. The AP-7 is an open-reed call - best for late season cold weather work. Very versatile call that requires some practice to get the hang of, but once you win it over, it's like riding a bike. Both are great calls, but the 7 can do some things more easier than the 6, or that the 6 just isn't designed to do, i.e., vocalizations. Lotsa guys use the 6, and a real fair number here are fond of the 7. Can't go wrong with either one.

The AP-6 is my all time favorite, go-to call. I have confidence in it and it works very well for me.

I construct my own close reed calls which I employ with much sucess, I enjoy using open reed calls for their variety of sounds if well made and I love the results that I received the first morning out with the Sceery Bite call (AP 6). Within 4 minutes of calling my buddy shot a big coydoy and missed the coyote with it. Next stand I had a red fox walk up to within 20 steps of him before it realize not all was as it seemed. It is a good call that can be tweeked with mouth pressure to generate many different calling sounds. Easy to use, too.

The AP-6 is a great call for distress sounds probaly my faviorat but with the open reed ap-7 you can pup whine howl if you need to and a few other sounds so if distress sounds is all you want i would suggest the ap-6 it's counted for many a dead dog for me
