Sceery calls

Ive heard a lot about Sceery brand calls on this board seems like everyones fond of them. Ive never used one and am interested in how well itll perform against a Burnham Bros. (mini-blaster), as far as the amount of breath required to use it. Ive had several different distress calls in the past and they all require too much energy to use.

Can someone compare the two for me, on efficiency and success? Thanks Tommy...

Both are good. I tend to prefer the Sceery personally, but they are both more than adequate and easy to use. The Sceery is probably the more robust of the two you mantion.

For long range between the AP-6 and AP-7 I suppose the AP-7 may have an edge in volume. Both calls can be plenty raspy. If you don't have an AP-6 I recommend getting one. They are a unique and fun call. Very versatile.

For a raspy closed reed call that closely compares to the very good Burnham Bros "Mini Blaster", you might try the Sceery AP-3 Jack Rabbit or AP-5 Snowshoe Hare. Both are very raspy and make a great fawn distress also. They are not bite calls like the Mini Blaster though. The AP-6 would be closest in that dept.

Merle= Thanks for the distinction between the 2

Curt= Ill go ahead and get the AP-6 and -7 just so i can see how they perform in the field. If i got the AP-5 the coyotes would probably think they made a wrong turn somwhere (hearin a snowshoe in West Texas).

Thanks again guys...

Good idea! Collect em' all, I always say!

I bought all of the Sceery predator calls and I love Em all.The ones I have and have used are the AP-1(rodent coaxer),AP-2(cottontail),AP-3(jackrabbit),AP-4(coarse cottontail),AP-5(snowshoe hare),AP-6(variable),AP-7(open reed),AP-8(special coaxer),and the AMG-1(fawn bleat/distress).All of them are the camarm(rubber barrels)calls.I have all nine models in woodland camo, and all eight AP models in the special Desert camo.I bought most of them 10 or so years ago, when I ate, drank, and slept predator hunting. Now that I have mellowed alittle I stick with the AP-6,and AP-7.Oh,I almost forgot my Sceery howler.Ya just gotta love them Sceery calls.

Hello,
Did not know they made them in desert Camo.
Has anybody tried the "Fawn in Distress" mouth call by Sceery? Is it hard to use? Was thinking of bringing one to AZ., as due to the sad state of the regs, my JS will be out of commission, but a great way to learn mouth calls.

BTW...Where is Ed? He used to moderate the old PC board, and I sure did like reading his stuff. Wish that there was some way we could get the old PC board back up, even if only for the archives. Was a lot of valuable info in there. Would have thought he would drop by here or the other boards, but so far...no show......

Tackdriver,I have the fawn bleat/distress call(Sceery).Sounds alot like the jack rabbit distress call, and it is not hard to use at all.Ed made a "Special Edition" of desert camo Camarm calls back around 7 or 8 years ago,I don't know if you can still get them through him or not.I bought alot of calls back then, but anymore I just stick with the AP-6(variable)and the AP-7(open reed) calls. They make just about every sound you will need to call coyotes.I like the Sceery howler too.I really like to keep it simple anymore,my Gun,a couple calls, and a camo jacket, that's about it.I still seem to kill quite a few coyotes every year.GOOD HUNTING

Hello Tommy,

I have had a ton of luck with the AP-3 Jack call, this call accounts for at least 30+ coyotes a year. So easy to use, and man can you poor some volume out of it too.

I have the AP-6 and have only called a few with it, not sure what I am doing wrong. I have best luck with coarse calls. As long as the animal hears the pain he will come regardless of what it is.

Hey Chad, longtime no see buddy. How is school? I got a huge test today. Yuck!

Have to agree with you on the AP-3. Although I like the AP-6 I have begun only using it for quiet puppy whines and yipes. For distress sounds the coyotes seem to prefer the AP-3 around here. Must be the better vol of the AP-3. I have also had good luck with the AP-5 which sounds similar if not the same as the AP-3.

Hows yer hotrod doing?

Take it easy, Curt

If the AP-3 is Sceery's closed reed jackrabbit call then that's the closed reed call I have the best luck with too. Believe it or not, my favorite open reed call is Sceery's version of the hyper hot cow elk call. I've called in a bunch of critters with it.
