Scope base recommendation for savage 12

Hi all, I just bought a savage 12fv in 22-250. I have the scope on its way it's a Vortex viper 6.5-20. I was thinking about getting a dnz mount but I'm not sure if I can get out to 700 yards with that mount or not. Where I live 700 will be the longest shot I'll be able to take on the pasture poodles and I didn't know if I would run out of elevation or not. Also those of you shooting pdogs with the viper, how does the mil reticle work? Hopefully the cross hairs are nice and thin? Thanks!

I'm running a nightforce 20MOA split base on my model 12 and it has a PST on it right now. Runs very well and enough elevation to get to 1000 yards with a 6mm Ackley Improved.

I don't have any experience with the regular Viper 6-20 and I'm assuming that is SFP and the turrets are capped and likely not built well enough to "turn" or dial all your elevations. I've read about tracking issues, even on the PST's but haven't had any issues, personally. If the scope is SFP the cross hairs whether MOA or MIL will be plenty "thin" to shoot little dogs.

I use EGW & Weaver 20moa bases on most of my Savage rigs. I have the DNZ 1 pcs unit on 2 Savage rigs I built for my kids and they shoot to 700 yards with no issues with Nikons 3.5-14x scopes.

Hey 5spd how do you like those dnz mounts was thinking of ordering one for a savage 220 slug gun. Sorry to hijack your thread

I like it, no issues at all, very solid unit, bought one in 30mm last week also.

Thanks everyone! I got the dnz 20 moa tactical mounts and they work great! Haven't had the opportunity to stretch it out past 400 yet but I'm sure they will do the job.

I just purchased a 12 FV in 223 & 204 from Cabelas, and ordered some of these DNZ mounts based on these recommendations, as well as comments on other forums. Going to mount a 4-12/40 on one, don't know on the other but probably the same since both rifles are identical except for the caliper and will be used for the same purposes.
