scope cover "flip up" caps

I am so glad that I took the time to read this part of the forum. I have 1 set of bikini's, and was going to head to Cabelas for flip caps for my other 5 rifles. Thanks guys!!
Just goes to show you there's nothing wrong with bikini's!!

Has anyone had problems with Nikon's flip caps? I have a couple M-223 scopes and the caps seem like decent quality, but I haven't put them through any abuse. Curious on their long term quality vs Butler Creek.

What is everyone's opinion on bikini vs neoprene covers? I like the entire scope protection of neoprene ones, but do some people prefer bikini covers because they are more airtight (keeps dust off the lenses)?

Or neoprene to protect exposed turrets and bikini for covered turrets? That would make sense to me.

Also, for anyone with a precision rifle with an expensive optic...I'm planning on getting a padded scope/crown cover for my .308 with a Vortex PST 4-16x. Should I also get a bikini cover to better protect the lenses or would that be good enough?

The nikon flips are average. The flips on the m223 have held up pretty well. The flips on my monarch 3, not so much. The hinge on the objective broke in a few weeks.

I have a couple neoprene's that came with my Leupolds.I would say they're as good maybe better than BC flip ups. From what I'm seeing definitely better than newer BC's.If mine fail I'll use them.

No experience with the newer butler creek caps but my older ones have held up well. My absolute favorite is the old Anderson/Uncle Mike's caps that were 2 rubber coated disks with a large rubber band securing them to the scope.

no doubt a bikini if you hunt in snow

Hmmmmmm. I have tons of BC flip-ups. I guess all are the older ones, as I was unaware of the "change". Not happy to hear that.

I have broken some BCs, but for the most part they work well enough for the price IMO.

Last few years now, most of the scopes I have used had the Leupy flip-ups on them, which are a bit pricey, but excellent IMO.........

I've broken BC flip-ups, but I keep coming back to them. I like 'em much better than bikini covers just because I don't have to mess around taking them off when the time comes to shoot. And I don't worry about losing them.

Ive broke more b creeks right at the hing than i can count & im not in 23 degree weather muchat all (I broke 5 caps in one week of hunting last year). I am pretty rough on my chit though... Either way, I am done with BC caps.

So far the 2 sets of alumi-flip leupolds I'm running are holding up quite well. Wish I could get a few pair to fit some NF scopes.

Tried the BC caps once. Never again.

I just use the bikini. I usually just leave it in the case, but I have one I keep in my back pack just in case I have to negotiate some rough terrain/brush.

Sometimes I just wrap it around the sling pulling one end through the loop formed by the other end of the bikini. It can fall off but usually stays put.

I have Leupold flip up caps as well as Butler Creek caps that are about 15 years old. Both work great. Too bad the quality has dropped off on the Butler Creek stuff.

Midway and other shooting supply stores carry them and you can find them on Ebay.

I just looked at Ebay and one guy is "trying" to get $191 for a set of front and back flip ups. Most are the same price as Midway.
