Scope mount for my new AR

Waiting for my new AR to get here, DPMS Sweet Sixteen SS Bull. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gifHave the optics I am going to use, but was wondering. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifBeing it is a flat top, what kind of scope mount will be best? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I have seen lots of guys using 1 piece risers and the sort. Will a standered set of see through high mounts(which I already have) get me enough clearance and work, or should I spend the money and get something better? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Any input will be greatly appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Thanks Tony

If you want the "Best", go for a one piece mount from LaRue...

After that look to the Armalite, and then start considering the riser mount combination.

Unless you have opted for the Elevated Optical Platform (Hi-Rider from DPMS) that has the extra 1/2" built in, you run the risk of adding more connections that can loosen and cost you the shot at a critical time.

All of my uppers have the EOP for just that purpose and I can use standard rings for my optics and still have a comfortable line of sight and cheek weld.

Flattop AR-15 Steel Matte

I've got that mount, and it's 7075 aluminum, not steel.
It's a slightly taller version of the Armalite, and I've been very satisfied with it. It's tall enough to clear a 50mm objective over a free-float tube with room to spare.

I was wondering the same thing about two weeks ago. Just about everyone told me to try the LaRue mount if within budget. I took there word for it and am really really happy that I did. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY. I assure you that you will not regret it.
ps. They send a lot of neat stuff along with it. ex: cap, bottle opener, paint dispenser.

I do not have any experience except with the extra high Millet mounts. I have liked mine they have not moved at all and put the scope perfect for me. When I get another upper it will also have millet extra highs on it.

I went with the Burris ex hight tactical rings and i love them. I think i paid $40 for the set. I think it will depend a lot on the eye relief of your scope as to what mount will work the best for you. Lee

Millet makes an AR scope mount just for pic. rails. Only $25 and so far no problems. Since I do not pay over $100 for any of my other scope mounts I could not justify the others.

If the see-thru rings you have mount on a picatinny rail correctly they will be fine. I use Warne rings on my AR's and high's seem to be the general all around fit but some folks need extra high. I don't like risers as they tend to loosen up and you may lose a zero. Like the Warne Tact rings as they attach using a torque wrench and can swap scopes out to any rifle I have that uses the Warne Picatinny base without having to re-adjust the ring position.

Some of the other mounts have a small position bar and may be loose in the rail. Make sure the rings are forward and secure to the front of the rail.

Who did you order yours through?

If that is directed to me, I ordered my LaRue direct, I think the prices are pretty well the same, LaRue usually sends some trinkets with their orders.

The B-Square #15150 1-piece mount is similar to the LaRue, and only half the price. Anyone have any experience with this mount?

Thanks. The "complaints" were pretty nebulous, mostly about "feel" not performance. The Loctite suggestion was spot on. I believe for the price it's not a bad mount. I think I'll try one.

I have the B-Spuare mount on my RRA PP and it is the perfect hieght for my Burris FFII 4.5-14x42mm. My only complaint is that I cannot use my longer Sig. Select scopes and get the correct eye releif.

I have an Armalite on my AR holding a Nikon 4.5x14. Eye relief is good and height is perfect. It's been on for about 2 yrs now and has not loosened once. The only problem I've got is with a long scope you have to position the scope and mount as far forward as possible for good access to the charging handle. I also have a small problem with eye relief when wearing heavy clothes, but have a Magpul UBR stock on order to solve that problem.
