Scope Mounts on Rem Model "Seven"

I was looking to mount a Leupold VX-II 3-9x50mm scope with Leupold rings and bases and was wondering if I would have enough clearance for this scope with the "medium" height rings? I do not like lifting my cheek any further off the stock than I have to, so I'm hesitant on purchasing the "high" rings until someone who knows for sure tells me what I need.

Thanks a bunch,

Craig

Leupold's mount selector on their web site says it requires high rings for this rifle/scope combination,FWIW.

I used the medium height mounts on my 7 using a Leupold fixed 4x scope. The Objective lens is 40mm and there is just enough clearance for it. You will probably have to go with the higher mounts. The gun shop I went to tried the short ones for me but the bolt handle hit the scope when it was lifted and pulled back. BTW, my 7 is the LS and I left the open sights on it, so the receiver sight enters into this equation. Hope this helps a little.

Sell the scope and buy a 3x9x40 just like it, then mount it in medium rings.

That will also solve the cheek weld problem.

50mm obj. will not look right on a Model 7.

I also have both a 40mm obj and a 32mm in med rings on my 7s
Clay is right, a 50mm would look like am oil drum on top of a pretty little 7...

Yup that 50mm Objective looks really big on a mod 7. I've got a fixed four power Leapold on mine and in a set of Weaver rings and bases it does an honest one inch five shot groups at a hundred. Can't gripe on that in an 18.5 inch 308 carbine.

Thanks everyone for your responses. You are right the 50mm scope would look funny on this particular rifle. I was only looking at this scope because it has "heavy duplex" in the power range and matte color that I want. My main concern in a scope is for a heavy duplex or a very noticeable duplex. My eyes were effected by optic neuritis a couple years back for I have multiple sclerosis and I need a duplex that my vision can pick up easily, so I'm not searching for the crosshairs when the fox comes running in. I was also considering the Zeiss 3-9x40mm Conquest since its duplex seems fairly thick, or should I say thicker than a standard duplex from Leupold. Any comments on this?

Thanks

Craig

You are right to stay away from a 50mm on a model 7. Standard Leupy duplexes are thinner than others, use what looks good to you, but for fox, I would stay away from anything real thick, even the Leupy heavy duplex....

Craig with your unique eye problem I'd suggest before you buy anything get into a place you can look through the scopes. I’ve got a couple of Bushnell 4200’s that sound like they could fit your needs with little heavier cross hairs. The 2.5 X 10 is one of my favorite scopes. Their 3 X 9 is fifty dollars cheaper and would probably fit well on a calling gun. Good luck.
