I went to sportsmans today and looked at a couple scopes I have been interested in
The Nikon Monarch in 5x20
The new Nikon Monarch in 6x24
The Ziess Conquest in 6.5x20
The new nikons are wonderfull the 6x24 was the first scope in years I could look thru with a small amount of darkness at full power...exciting to me! Very clear and sharp to the edges almost all the way to 24x
The nikon 5x20 same as the other but got darker faster due to the smaller objective lens prolly.
The Ziess is a fantastic piece of glass, I dont know what the difference was between this one and the one my BIL has. It had no darkness (or very near none)at 20x the color seemed just a shade brighter than the nikons, It would be interesting to set this one next to my Nightforce. I like the turrets on the Ziess alittle more because there where no caps over them, and they seemed like they would be easier to get a grip on with gloves. There may be one of these in my future.
Interesting note.
When comparing the Nikon's and Ziess against a new luppy 6.5x20 VXIII tactical model. Outside the store where it was bright the luppy was ok but not as bright or sharp as the other 3 scopes in the higher powers. Inside the store looking at a well lighted white wall the color was white in the nikon's and ziess, while it turned a cream colored thru the VXIII. The VXIII was entirely darker in the store than the other 3 scopes I looked thru.
I spent an hour looking at 4 scopes today and learned alot!
Looks as if I might just need to get some new glass on a couple rifles, plus go see the eye doc.
