Scope recommendation for a LONNGGGGG shot

A 7 mag with a 6-18x Buckmaster would work just fine to 800 yds. I prefer Leupolds and Nightforce scopes for such shooting, myself, and they are what I use.......

Geez you guys are ruthless! lol

After I told him the shot was illegal he replied, "Well I guess I need a new place to shoot."

If after he gets out of jail for shooting over a public roadway and by some longshot he gets to own a gun again then we can set him up to safely shoot as far as he wants. THEN if he plans on continuing to shoot at long range(actually to some 1000 yds. isn't long range)he will need something more than a $150 scope and a plain jane factory rifle.

Penn State where the locker rooms are more dangerous than the football field...............

He's only allowed to come if I get an invite, too

Thanks for the reply. I prefer Leupold, too. Unfortunately, one with similar stats to the buckmaster would probably be double the price.

You can come, he has to go to hunters safety first LOL. Plenty of room and lots to shoot. In my little corner of the world we generally only shoot paper to get rifles sighted in after that we use them.
Prairie dogs don't require much in the way of "big guns" but we do like to go the distance. No less than 20000 or so around.

Did you have a funny feeling in your gut earlier in the year? I'm pretty sure he drove through Colorado on vaca with his family when they visited some of the West(actually, it could have been last year).

I would love to go to Colorado lol...actually my manager at the pizza shop I worked at went to some alien convention there and said it was beautiful! Apparently there are sand dunes?

I did take the hunters safety course...he definitely hasn't. I plan on taking a handgun course, too. How far away is Colorado from Idaho and Montana? That's where I think I want to call home. And I want to shoot a wolf!

I hope I didn't imply my desire to move out west was just so I can shoot a wolf. In my eyes, Montana has everything to offer.

But i'll kill a six pack

I think the reasOn everyone is ruthless is is hunters and shooters get enough negative press and when guys like your cousin do things like that it gives the anti gun nuts fuel for the fire. Read the article about blm land closing to shooters and then maybe you will see where everyone's coming
From. We're just givin h tips to stay out of trouble and
To prevent accidents as so he doesn't give everyone else a bad rap as a shooter/ hunter

when he mentioned ballistic reticles, i was assuming he was talking about something like nikons BDC, which is set up for a specific load.

All these new terms these marketing divisions are coming out with. wew.
A mil, moa or iphy reticle is for ranging distance. Ballistic reticles are for
hold over at a specific distance. Which can be done with a ranging reticle
if you desire. They all have graduations at specific moa or mil points but
are not evenly graduated. You would have a heck of a time in the field trying
to range with them. Bring lots of notes. Then they have bracketing reticles
like the old Lupy's where if a deer fit between the duplex he was at x distance. Pretty crude way of ranging. Might have helped some one kill a deer
once. BDC knobs are for dialing to a specific distance with a specific load. Hope
this helps some new shooters out there.

800 yds can be done very easy with a .223 & a 6-24x44 mildot/target knobed scope under $200.
I do it many times shooting p-dogs...& yup I hit them using just a 50g vmax bullet also.
NEVER shoot across public roads!

BSA 30mm tubed 6-24x44 "tactical" mil dot, scope on a 20 moa base will do it very easy with tons of room to go higher.
I also have a BSA platnum target scope on a 0 moa base that does the same thing on my other set up.
Its not hard to do without spending gobs of money.
