Scope rings for Bushmaster Varmint Special w/ mini risers - what height?

I have a Bushmaster Varmint Special on order. I finally decided on a Bushnell 4200 3X9X40mm for it. Now I need rings. I have read around on it and found that a lot of people like the Warne and Leupold rings. It has Mini-risers mounted on the “Flat-top” Upper Receiver to raise mounted scopes ½". That leads me to my question.

-What height scope rings do I need?

-Does anyone know if the risers are Weaver style or Picatinny? I thought I read that they were Weaver, but now I can't find where I saw it.

According to this:

"Warne Maxima scope rings are designed to fit Warne bases as well as all Weaver cross slot and Mil-Spec Picatinny style bases and rails."

So, they will fit both, so it doesn't matter which one they are...right?

Right! With if you use Weaver bases when you install them put the front ring studs up tight to the front part of the groove in the rail and the rear mount studs up tight to the rear of that groove, Then tighten down, The Waver studs Are just a bit smaller and don't fill the rail slots, They work fine though. I don't know if I used the right terminology or not but I hope you understand what I mean. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I was looking around some more and found this. The Warne website has flat top AR rings that are .935" high. The regular fixed medium rings are .375". So I figure with my .5" risers plus the medium rings .375" will get me at .875" high. I think that will be close enough to the flat top ring height.

Another option would be to skip the mini risers all together and go with one of the 1 piece mounts. They're rock solid and high enough to clear a 50mm objective. No risers means one less thing to come loose. There are several to choose from ranging from under $100 to almost $200. Google it up and you should get plenty of hits.

Here's one on my Varminter.

Nice gun. Is yours stainless? I think I'm going to get some wrap and do that to my barrel when I go out coyote hunting.

I went with the the risers and medium height rings. The rings were $25 vs. $70+. I figure if it starts giving me troubles, I'll just get a one piece mount and put these on another gun. I'm a little short on cash now, so it'll do.

BTW...to anyone else with this question --- I found another thread started after mine that's almost the exact same topic over in the reloading section...it has more responses->
