Scope suggestions for a .17 HMR

Quote:
MTmud, You might look into the Pentax Gameseeker line up of scopes. I've bought two of these scopes recently and am VERY impressed with them for the money. I put a 3X9X40 on a Ruger 10/22 and a 4X12X40 on a Savage 17HMR. Both scopes have ballistic plex recticles. These scopes are nice and clear and seem to track very well when making up/down and left/right adjustments.
A guy on ebay (must be a dealer) always has a good selection of these scopes offered. He alway uses a *buy it now* option along with a *make best offer*.... I offered $10 less on the 4X12 and $15 less on the 3X9 and he accepted both. He also has free shipping on all the scopes. Good scopes for the bucks.

Speaking of Pentax Gameseeker scopes, I ordered one for my son from Camera Land of New York. Can't beat this deal.

I can see you already must be on overload with all of these suggestions, but I'll throw my 2 bits in...

I don't think you need more than 9X for this round. I've found that it is very limited in use past 150 yards, and at that distance, 9X is plenty.

I range tested it extensively, and shot it at prairie dogs in the field. My conclusion is that it is a 100 yard round for prairie dog and smaller sized game. This is not a coyote or other medium sized predator round.

Yes, you can kill chucks with it, but not reliably or definitively at ranges past 75 yards or so. (Excepting head shots, of course).

So my reco would be the Burris Fullfield II with Ballistic Plex reticle. You can look on their website, and find which hash marks will match your trajectory. The scope itself is very bright and clear to the edges. It also appears pretty robust and well made.

Good luck.

Just bought a Burris 3x9 fullfield ll b plex, for my .17.
Ebay $155.00. great deal. I have yet to shoot it but it is as clear as can be great eye relief, forever waranty. Looks as good as my leupold? or clearer. Good luck
