Scope suggestions

I just bought a new rifle yesterday and I'm trying to decide on a scope. Rifle is a Kimber Mountain Ascent in good old 7mm Rem. Mag. Fairly light rifle (though I haven't weighed it yet) so i want to stay on the light side with my scope, too. I'm thinking something in the 4-12x range. I have a Leupold VX6 HD 3-18x I could pirate off another rifle, but it is not really a lightweight. What would you suggest that's $1000 or less?

well the lighter your rig, the more felt recoil you'll receive but I'm sure u know that... that 7 mag has a lot of powder in the case. That Leupold would make a good scope, you'll never feel a few oz. IMO

So what ranges are realistic for you.

My 7mm RM wore a 1-4x20 in the forests of northern MN and WI and a straight 12x out in ND but that was in the 1970s.

Something like a Burris FF 2-8x35 or 2.5-10, Athlon Argos 2-12x42, all 1" tubes would work without breaking the bank. A Sightron S-tac 3-15 is nice. I'm shooting all but the 2-8x35.

Look into Trijicon optics. They’re tough like Night force but without the huge price tag. I like my Accupoint optics. Huron are less $

What kind of hunting and terrain are you planning on? Any features that are make or break for you?

Ive got it on mind to do a 17 hmr or wsm for hiking and want as light as possible, but still shootable. I expect more prairie dogs than anything, but if a fox or coyote volunteer from a reasonable range im willing to take them. Scope i am considering is swfa 2.5-10x32 ultralight.

I looked at that swfa UL, in fact had one on backorder for 6 months and it didn't look like it was going to get there anytime soon so I cancelled. Eye relief on that scope looks a little short for a 7mm Mag, I was going to put it on a 222.

It's a little short for anything you put it on, in fact not even usable at 10X, unless you stick your face right in the objective lens. It's OK up to about 6X, the rest is dead weight.

All good suggestions, appreciated. Ive got a couple of extra scopes laying around, i may try to sell them and have some money to play with for the new 7 mag.
Wolverines, I also have a VX5 on my little Kimber 6.5 CM, but I'm really happy with it where it is, dont think I'll move it.
