Sellier and Bellot Small Rifle Primers

Well last summer I bought 2000 of these at Cabella's for $20 / brick. I loaded 50 rounds of 223 yesterday morning and substituted these for the Remington 7 1/2's i usually use. My load is 25.5 grains of TAC behind a 65 grain Sierra game king. Took them to the range and they seem to shoot very well and seem to be fine in my AR.i haven't tested them thoroughly but they seem fine on this first trial .

For the most part I mix primers and haven’t had any issues, of the same type of course. Most of my primers are CCI and Winchester, haven’t done the S & B primers, but they seem to have a good rep.

I usually don’t flirt with the edge of max on my loads either.

Dadgum CCI BR4 primers have gotten so pricey that a few weeks ago I decided to do a bit of experimenting with loads and see if there was a substitute that I liked as well as the BR primers. I was using my recently rebarrelled CZ 527 in .221 FB and tried Winchester WSR, Federal Match, CCI 400, 450 and BR, Rem 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 and the S&B. Only 10 rounds of each and same 40 grain Vmax loaded with the same (CFE BLK) powder charge. Guess what? The all shot less than 1/2" at 100 yards but only two gave me the "one ragged hole" we all love so much. The Remington 7 1/2 and the S&B. OK. I think that I have found my favorite cap for the Furball. For right now anyway. Still got lots of other guns to that a small rifle primer to test this on. Might be a while before I got them all done. Not this year I dont expect.

They work great in my .223 M700ADL, but give problems with my 110 year old M94 Marlin 25-20. This one has been to Ranger Point Precision a couple times for various problems including the firing pin. Evidently it's not hitting the primer hard enough. The old Wolf primers I ran out of worked great, for now I'm using Federals in it.

I've got a large supply of them, both small and large rifle. Haven't had any issues in AR rifles which was my big concern, no slam fires, even in a 338 Federal, and seem to be consistent, so I'm a fan. I still try to find the right primer for the right rifle but when I can I reach for the SB.

When I worked at the gun shop we sold a lot of these primers and ammo too. No one ever complained about them. I shot a lot of 9mm ammo and it shot very well in my Glock 17.

Every now and then Cabellas has them on sale for 19.99 and I can pick them up without a shipping and hazmat charge. That's probably about as cheap as we are going to get primers these days.
