Selling a rifle............

Some while back a good friend and Army buddy of mine was eyeing my Colt Commander (actually I have 3 of them), always telling me about how he lost one in a divorce.
While he actually never out and out stated he desired it, I knew he did want it because he would always lament on him losing his. This went on for years.

One day I asked him if he wanted to buy one of them. "I don't have enough funds he said" My reply was sure you do. I can't describe the look on him face but it was priceless as he just did not have a clue. Then I said open your gun safe, I peered in and he had a old single shot rifle. I turned to him and said what about you trade me that rifle for the Commander. He couldn't put that single shot fast enough in my hands, and reach for the Commander I laid on his reloading bench.
While many would consider the trade I offered I had lost my tail end over ($$ wise it was). To me it was one of the best trade I had ever done, it was worth it to me for his happiness. My buddy never rooked or got over on me, the truth is I wanted him to have it. To this day you couldn't pry that old Commander out of his hands.
We don't discuss it, but both of us is happy with it. And since that day I've never heard the story again of the loss of the Commander in a divorce.
