Selling my Ar

I'm going to sell my AR15 .223/5.56. It is a DPMS Sportical. I have added, Nikon 4.5-14x40 BDC scope. Picatinny rail. Comes with case, 3 clips, 2 30 rnd, and one 10 rnd. About 300 rnds of ammo. 2 bipods, one 6 inch and the other is 10"-24" I think. What would be a fair price. I've got between $1200-$1300 invested. I don't ever use it and I've got more use for a new shotgun, (bird hunter).

I haven't decided how or where (gunbroker or just locally) I'm going to sell it. Or maybe I'll just trade it. A local gun shop told me to wait about 6 months and it will bring premium money. Good idea or not? I'm really in no hurry.

So what do you guys think?
 
Post it in the classifieds here. It will sell. Waiting for the price to change is a gamble. And if you sell it, this may be the last opportunity to own one, or at least in the configuration you have. I'd keep it. JMHO.

I would too. I've got friends who had never thought about buying an AR until the last few days, and now they're shopping...
 
Gunbroker is not currently the best place to price an AR due to current political climate...Many are trying to grab onto anticipated inflation factors...and jacking up their prices beyond reason....

Look at your local gun shops and see what their prices are running...If you want to sell it fast, drop your price approximately 15% below their average...If you want to gamble and are in no real hurry, price it within 5% of what the retailers are asking currently...

If you go to trade it in, you will be lucky to get credit for 80% of current retail and probably closer to 60%...
 
Keep it. I made that mistake before the last panic of 08-09. I'd have over a dozen right now. Stay cool, whether you need it or not, you'll use it.

I've rediscovered my little 22's after buying all the big calibers. They're fun to shoot, inexpensive to shoot and you can really sharpen your skills with them.

The same will with the AR platform. Put it away, forget you have it, then when you rediscover it you'll be happy you did!
 
I've pretty much regretted selling every gun I ever sold. My advice is don't sell any unless you need the money.

If you do I'd guess the price is gonna be premium about now. I've never seen the frenzy like this.
 
The rest of my parts for my lower will be here today or tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure it's going up for sale, but why not list it at a premium? Supply and demand is the name of the game, demand is nuts, supply can't keep up. Let the individual wanting the firearm decide if it's worth it.

I don't need to own an AR just to say I do, I want to hunt, if this just becomes an expensive paperweight, then the joke's on me.

I'll sell it, cancel my upper order, and buy a bolt. I'll look at msrp of each component and add gas cost, cost of my time to assemble/ acquire parts etc... Then probably double it.
My time, money, research went into each part, that is worth something to me.

If you just want to get rid of it, sell it for what you bought it for.
 
I to hate selling one of my guns, always think I sure wish I still had that-I don't know why but.....I would just hang on to it for awhile just to see.....

I sell on Gunbroker. I ship from a local gunshop, FFL to FFL. I ask for USPS Money Orders when I cash them. I ship the gun.
 
I just sold one the other day..three weeks ago before the tragedy and the resulting panic buying. I had given a price to a friend who was interested.

I could have sold it easily for 300.00 more on wednesday.
If you dont have another AR keep it. or take the money now, chance on ordering a stripped lower for later use and buy the shotgun.

If an AR really isnt that important of a thing to own for you take the money and run, its definately a sellers market now. 6 months is a long time, and honestly you may not be able to legally sell it in 6mos. but who knows what those morons in DC will do.
 
If you decide to sell it, strip off all of the accessories and sell them separately. You'll make plenty of money on the gun alone, and many folks who are batsh*t crazy for ARs right now care only about the gun.
 
I really like coyote hunting with my ar but the prices they are bringing right now has got me thinking of going back to a bolt action.

Simply unbelievable the prices that are being paid.

It already is. I talked to a guy the other day who hadn't shot a handgun in 15 years...he went out and bought two. Panick buyers are screwing everybody.

BTW, like others said, if it's your only one, I'd probably keep it unless you just aren't that fond of the platform.
