Selling pelts?

Coming from a trapping background, I'm curious how many of you actualy put up and sell the fur you harvest. Looking through the threads it seems that many do not, which is fine, but with pelt prices for fox and coyote running around $20 to 35 each, wondering why not?

Mallard,

You have a good point. But my problem being new to serious coyote hunting is not knowing where to sell the pelts here in Western Oregon.

Maybe some other PM Members can help me and others out by telling us where or how to go about selling pelts.

(Not that I have been so successful as yet, but I am getting better!!)

Malard,
I'm from NY and my buddy and I are just doing great with the grey fox and we want to know where we can sell ours.

I sell all mine through the NORTH AMERICAN FUR AUCTION. Just sent another 12 Coyotes and 2 badger on Monday for the auction in February.
I can't tell you what the first dozen brought because the auction is 11th of January.

I'll report back when I know more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hopefully.....big$$$$

Mallard--sorry I can't help you out with buyers in your area. I did sell four coyotes in the round a week ago and received $30 for one, two sold at $20 each and a small female that was rubbed pretty bad brought $10. I don't have any facilities to work furs any more, nor do I have the inclination to do so either.

We have a local fur buyer I've been selling to for years. Used to send them to North American Fur Auction and will do that this year again. I put up all my furs. My wife even lets me wash them in the washing machine!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif She's a jewel. Nothing like brushing out a good hide wondering "how much will I get for this one?"

Here we have a local buyer that skins them and puts them up themselves. Really if we skinned them ourselves which some people do it would only give us a couple extra bucks, because I asked how much more I would get if I put it up myself and it really isn't worth it here. The last 2 coyotes I sold I got $28 for one and $22 for the other and that was on the carcass. So really that wasn't bad, and not having a place to put up fur it is just easier this way for me.

Mike Granger, could you email the contact info for the fur buyer? Up here in the north it is very hard to find a buyer. The nearesr place is Sidney. It takes quite a few dogs to make the trip pay.

I know of several people that would be interested in locating a buyer.

DogAR,

That would be Marvin Fluth Enterprises in Lewistown, MT. I won't put his phone number on the internet but you should be able to find it via information. I do know he has traveled up northeast Montana to buy furs before. Hope this helps.

I just saw the email address. Maybe I should read these posts a little more carefully. I'll shoot one your way.
