Semi auto shotgun?

I have a closet full of Remington 1100s... Some from the late 60s... 4 - 12ga and 3- 20ga... All are as reliable as can be if you operate and care for them properly... Periodic cleanig and maintenance... replace the "O" rings when they begin to loose their resilience... "Had" one 11-87 and one 11-86... both are long gone and I say "good riddance"... But, they were early production and I probably could find a nice one that works now...

In your price range there are some very nice guns available... Go look them all over and then come back and ask for opinions from owners...

Or, ask the other trap shooters who occassionally have to buy my coffee/beer how well an 1100 can shoot.

There's Benelli and then there's everything else...

Porsche, accept no substitute.

Untill skeet got upscale and the expensive O/U took over the 1100 ruled. It could not have been bad if people were using it to win money.

check whittaker guns.com out of kentucky they have some great deals on used shotguns. Have dealt with them several times and they are good people

I have a browning gold and would not trade it for anything else. It has never jammed on me. My brother has an browning A-5 and that gone works pretty good he bought his for 500 I think

I am a novice predator hunter for sure. However,I have hunted a lot of different birds for may years. Waterfowl hunters know about shotguns and the abuse they receive.
My suggestion is to by a Benelli SBEII in HD Camo.
It is going to work all the time, and will last a lifetime. I would not give up my OU for upland birds, skeet, and trap. However for what you want, the Benelli is the best way to go,I guarantee it.

If anyone tells you the Benelli SBEII has problems, and is not worth the money, they will lie to you about other things as well.
Sure wish I got paid by Benelli for saying this. But they won't,so Ill say it for nothing.

my favorite is my 11-87. i also really like my grandpas browning gold. both are dead reliable. if you asked anyone in my camp about mossbergs they would say "piece of junk" we have had many problems with them like jamming, inaccurate, magazine tubes shooting off, bolt handles snapping, sights breaking and safety breaking. i would never buy a Mossberg. i wish i had a benelli, but they are extremely expensive.

I duck hunt with a guy who shoots a Mossberg. He has constant problems. Im sure they make some good guns, but I would rather trust the Benelli day in and day out.
Go boom every time.

This Benelli chat will no doubt start a shotgun war. But,I have never enjoyed a semi-auto like the SBEII. The first thing I noticed is how light it is. I took it Goose hunting and was concerned how much it ws going to hurt when shooting 3.5's. The recoil system made it feel like shooting 2.3/4's.
It is an amazing shotgun. Try it and you will see what you have been missing with the 11-87. That is the same heavy brick that I have been shooting since college. Benelli blows it completley away.

Like I said when I sarted this post, I dont have the funds or the demand in which kind of shooting or hunting I do to pay $1300 fo a shotgun semi auto or not. I dont predator hunt with my shotguns. Not saying I wouldnt. I just dont. I am wanting a depedable,AFFORDABLE, semi. No non-sense,glitz or glamour. Justa good gun. I would love nothing more than to own a Benelli but I also want to keep out of marriage counseling /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

I own two Beretta A303's and love them. The A303 is not the current model but mine shoots all loads (2 3/4 and 3")with no problems. Easy to maintain and the best part is I paid $225 for a 28" barrel version and I think $275 or $300 for
a 26" gun with really nice wood. The only thing I've done to guns is added a limbsaver pad to both ($30.00 apiece) and changed the buttstock shim ($10.00). I liked the first gun I bought so much I got it camo dipped a Gander Mountain for $150.00 would be about $200.00 now. Hope this info helps you find a nice inexpensive auto shotgun. By the way I just bought a used Benelli Super Sport last week to shoot trap and sporting clays and its a great gun, but it I'm going to shoot trap tomorrow and I'm taking my camo A303 until I get the Benelli dialed in. Patterned some high velocity crow loads and I think the Beretta kicked less, maybe it was limbsaver. Good Luck, reasonable nice guns are out there.

If that's the case then get a Mossberg 935. I bought one and don't regret it a bit.

I have a Remington 11/87 SP that has 100% reliable since I bought it in 1991. My wife hunts with a Browning Gold Hunter - also 100% reliable. Remington makes the 11/87 Sportsman - an economical version with very few internal differences, mostly cosmetic. The Sportsman is about $500.
