Shilen barrels

Are they the best barrels on a AR?....I know DTECH and others use them on their customs....i have a fluted 20 inch one thats heavy,,but worth packing because of the way it shoots.

Or are kreiger, wilson, er shaw just as good? ......X

I think there are many that make great barrel-blanks, and I don't think there's a single barrel maker out there that consistently makes poor blanks.

I have found that Shilen makes very consistently good blanks, and they are great to work with. I'm sure Krieger makes a fantastic blank, but for me, Shilen was just much easier to deal with, and gave me great service and pricing.

The AR is not the perfect platform to assess the true finite accuracy of a barrel blank. I think most of the top named barrels will shoot better than the AR platform is capable of.

I will say this though: I have tried other barrel makers, and some were hit and miss as far as fine accuracy. With the Shilen barrels I have used, if I do my part, it will be a very accurate AR barrel. They are VERY consistent, barrel to barrel.

My best shooting Ar just happens to have a Shilen BBl. But WOA, Krieger, wilson, er shaw etc all know how to build accurate BBls. To say one of them is BEST is probably looking at it wrong, because there are several places making very good barrels.

OOPs mike beat me to it, he types faster than I can. lol So what he said +1

I have a 26" chrome moly shilen tube on my 204, and it's very accurate. Normally puts 5 32 gr vmaxes into 1" or 1.25" at 200 yards.

I have been comparing the er shaw 20 inch bull i have,,too the shilen 20 inch bull,,,using the same lower 2 stage trigger....shilen likes everything pretty much,,30-60 grain...shaw likes the 30 grainers and thats about it, tried some 40s and 3 different 55 hp without much luck.

Maybe the shaw would shoot heavier better?...both 1-9 twist....X

I know Wilson supplies Rock River Arms and White Oak Armament with stainless blanks and complete barrels and with the Predator Pursuit's consistantly great track record I would have to put them right up there with Kreiger, Shaw, Douglas, etc. I know they don't get all the raves the others do but they seem to work perfectly for this application. Now bolt action bench guns are probably a whole different animal altogether...
