i know this has been asked before but whats the best way to ship ammo? i tried the search function and it leaves alot to be desired. i got some ammo i want to post in the classifieds but i need to know the best and cheapest way to ship it.

Check UPS.com and FEDEX.com. Both allow firearms shipping so I would expect if you let them know what you're shipping, they'll let you know whether you can or can't.

Good luck!

well it looks like the best thing for me to do is sell the ammo ftf in my neck of the woods. checked with ups and fedex and you would of thought i asked them to ship uranium

thanks Heretic for the info.

I Think there was a sticky around here about that. I believe you can ship it through the mail but has to be marked ORM-D
with a label

I ship my prairie dog ammo every year by UPS, but I have to get my local sporting goods store to do it for me. Don't know what kind of permit or certificate they have, but it works. I ship it to my guide in Montana. If you're talking about small quantities of ammo, you would probably be better off dealing ftf.

you can ship ups and fedex ground not through the mail it has to be marked orm d. and the ups store will probably not help you but at a normal shipping hub should be no problem.

thanks everyone for the info,my nearest ups store is 30 miles away and about the same for FedEx. i believe i will just sell the ftf and be done with it. the only reason I'm selling the ammo is because i rebarreled my m77 and the factory ammo will not fit, the new barrel has a tight neck and the brass needs to be turned.

I shipped some ammo to a guy a few months ago. As a private individual you have to go to a UPS(FedeX too I assume) staffed service center & have the box properly marked. There is no easy & cheap way to do it. I knew ahead of time about the particulars & the guy was willing to pay the costs.

There is no additional cost because loaded ammo is not hazmat. Powder and primers are hazmat but loaded into ammo they are not.

I have never had problems shipping loaded ammunition. The best way for me now is to use the online UPS shipping utility. Box up your ammo and write ORM-D on the outside of the box. Weigh and measure your box. Enter the information on the UPS website and schedule a pick-up. Place the print-out label on the outside of the box and hand it to the driver. Normally they can pick up the next day, or even the same day if you really want to pay extra. Just make sure your box is taped up good and it is a good idea to completely cover the shipping label with clear packing tape.

Go figure! I think that whole thing is a scam so they can make more money simply becuase there is NO special handling or packaging that differs from anything else they ship. BIG RIPOFF!

When I went to a local UPS "store" to ship my ammo, they 'bout had a heart attack when I told them it was ammo (it was clearly marked with ORMD small arms ammo). They told me they couldn't ship. I went to the local UPS hub, and they wouldn't ship it either. That's why I went back to my local sporting goods store. Price depends on length, width, and height, of the box.......plus weight. Never tried to ship ammo thru FEDEX.

I think if the UPS hub would not ship your package, I would be tracking down a manager at said establishment, real quick. I have personally delivered in one shipment over 1.5 tons of ammunition directly to a UPS hub (in poly barrels on pallets, loose packed). Not a problem was had. This was the hub in Abingdon, VA.

Federal Express will also transport ammunition. In fact, they will even air ship ammo if you don't mind taking a certification class.

I was told at a UPS hub they will not ship & I would have to take to the Main shipping center. I was also shipping a Long gun & they wouldn't take that either, I said screw it & went to FEDEX with no problem. The price at FEDEX was also cheaper.
