Have had alot of mixed anwsers on this. I am in canada and everything optic related is near double the price. am I able to purchase a scope from the states and get it shipped here. I tried cabelas and they wouldnt ship here ?

I hear ya on the pricing for us poor Canadians! There are a few smaller websites that will ship scopes to Canada and some e-bay sellers will as well, but not many.

I am by no means an expert, but my understanding is that while it is perfectly fine with the Canadian government to import a scope (as long as the necessary duty/taxes are paid), the US requires an export permit. If an incoming scope is checked by Canada Customs there is no trouble but if it happens to be checked by the US on the way out there could be trouble. I did hear that one of the large mail order shooter supply places got a big fine for this a few years back and it motivated them and many others to take a very safe approach on what they will ship north.

cant decide but leaning toward a nikon monarch 3-12 or 4-16 and would like a bdc or mildot reticle leapold vx2 or a bushnell 4200, 6500any opions on that ?

I feel you pain, lol. We get absolutely raked over the coals up here. I have been pondering the purchase of a Forster Co-Ax press and the price difference is ridiculous.

As far as, the scope choice. I like my Monarch with BDC but would likely look to the mildot version, no real advantage to the cicles of the BDC in my opinion. Would also choose the Nikon over the VX-2. VX-3 or higher in the Leupy is my rule. Maybe take a look at the Vortex options (good scopes for the money, great warranty). Not a Bushy fan so I won't comment (bad experience).

If you have an American friend "gift" you a scope I believe you can avoid all the paperwork. Still have to do a simple postal declaration but thats it.

I have often contemplated the US friend route. For me it always came down to "who can you trust" and I am not one that likes to inconvenience folks. That being said, the difference in price and availability for hunting/shooting goodies is becoming ridiculous.
