Shooters taking advantage of shooters

With the shortage of ammo around does it seem right to sell your ammo a premium price to fello shooters for profit? I'm talking in the classifieds. Not just here but every forum out there. It just doesn't seem right. I wouldn't do it would you?

Its supply and demand.. Gold goes up in price the same as oil and other things. I am sure that there will be people taking advantage of the situation, but for Myself I wont. But if you look at it in another way, if you sell your stuff to someone you really dont know, then how can you be sure that he wont take your stuff that you sold him at "Pre-Panic" prices, and re-sell at todays levels? I guess its up to the seller. Let your concience be your guide.

For profit? Sure it's right. There are extremes but I'm sure you have sold something and made money on it. Just because it's your passion and it's happening to you doesn't make it wrong. When you sell your house someday, are you shooting to break even just in case real estate is the buyer's passion?

I'm not saying it is right or ethical, but it depends on the quality and condition of the item, plus any shipping involved to get an item to the buyer...If I'm selling something to a stranger, I want as much as I can get...If I'm selling to a friend or acquaintance, then it's 20% less than new, plus the cost of shipping...

Just found out that the wife of a pawn shop owner in a town 25 miles away from my home town works in the local Walmart...When they get ammo in the store, she calls her husband, he shows up and buys all they will sell him (they do limit some items) and then lists it on Gun Broker at an inflated price...

Complaints have been filed with little results on the part of the manager...

I saw the writing on the wall in 2008. I bought a little each month. I did not over buy just what I would use in a year. Learn this so it will not happen to me again. I was around in 1994 when the first ban caught me flat footed. Things will calm down, let this be learned put a little away for a rainy day.

Just seems like whenever I hear people yelling at others for selling ammo for too much money, they are always needing to buy rather than willing to sell. If its too much money than don't buy it. The market will straighten itself out and prices will fall where they should be.

I agree. I think everyone is going to learn their lesson from this last episode. Sure they will loosen up some but you won't see a box of Rem umc for 5.99 at farm and fleet again.

b]its what the companys are selling 223s for[/b] 1 dollar or more per shell...look at these 365 ..22lr shells for 119.00

http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/federal-...ds-p-89364.html

then if you sell ammo to a fello on here shipping is unreal because you do not get big company shipping prices.

Anything is worth what someone is wiling to pay. That can change moment bymoment.

A couple years agoi bought a 770 for $150, new and unfired. I put in an auction hoping for 300. Final bid was close to $700, i love that gun!

I had someone on another forum try and rip me a new one for taki g advantage of someone, like they honestly expected me to stand up in the middle of the auction and scream at people to stop bidding. Its not my fault and i retrospect id have bought as many as i thought i could sell that day.

Point being, money is money and profit is profit. Making them doesnt make you a bad person.

I am a bad person, but for unrelated reasons

Free enterprise... That is what makes this country awesome.

If you want to tell some one how much they are going to charge for their ammo you have taken the first step towards socialism . If you don't like the price don't buy it. Same for telling us what size of drink we can have or how many rounds I can have in my mag. You guys can't have it both ways.

No one is taking advantage of anyone, people seem happy to buy at inflated prices. No one has a gun to their head making them do it.

This too shall pass.

I Edited that i meant to show the OP...how much it is up, thats why guys are selling it that high...if they new for sure they will be able to replace there existing for what they paid some may sell for less but with nobody knowing the prices down the road,,,ammo will probably be high for awhile..

A nice young man I know on another forum was needing powder. I happen to have plenty for the time being. My wife and I happened to be going by the town of this young man and not only got to meet him face to face, but gifted him a pound of bullseye. He asked what I wanted for it, but I told him its not that big of a deal.He can replace it someday or not. I know him good enough on the other forum to know he has been looking for quite a while and wanting to start loading. Kinda a hard time to be starting, but we were all new at some point.

No I wouldn't.

I got into a nice battle with someone over this last week on another site. Not cuz I didn't like his price, but because I didn't like him either. Imagine that

I would have been banned 9 times here on PM before that little ditty ended

But hey, what's not to like about $65/brick (plus shipping) CCI Blazer .22LR ammo?
crazy.gif

I guess it was the part about him saying he was posting it to "help people out" that got to me. That and him lying that he paid $50 wholesale for it. He said he had receipts from wholesaler. I said "Good, let's see them". Of course, he refused to produce them. Had he not made such claims, I would have never opened my mouth.

I made him look so bad he is now giving 22 LR ammo away for free
lol.gif
I guess he figures that will clear his name and make people forget that he is a price gouger and tried to take advantage of his fellow shooters. But I doubt it..........

Hey its pay or do without it isnt cheap anywhere if you check blazers are going for $40 plus shipping.
He has to package it take it to the shipper, i dont blame the guy 1 bit.
Not being smart some just do not realize how high they are and that there is very little out there.
I do not own 1 semi, I dont waste bullets, in my opinion. And I dont run out in these times either.
Some of my younger buddies i told them lay off there trigger finger now they expect me to give them bullets.

I for one will sharpen my 22s into spears before I pay $40 for a box of bulk 22lr. thats just me though.

I just picked up a brick or rem thunderbolts for $18 from fleet farm 2 days ago. they had 4 brick in and abot 25 50rd boxes of win wildcats at $2 ea. bout $0.50 higher than normal but still not the worst thing ever.

people just dont know how to be patient these days. they have never ever in their life had to do with or just plain WAIT until the time was right to buy something. just because you want something that doesnt always justify giving your right nut for it.

Ive sold some things for marked up prices, i wont lie. I posted prices fully expecting people to make me an offer, some did, others did not and they seemed happy to get the items at the listed prices. I myself would have never payed those prices but to each their own. they dont have to work for my money nor I for theirs so what Im willing to spend and what the next guy is are 2 very diff. things.

Just the other day I was talking with a member about an item, I asked bout a trade, no dice. I threw my best offer at him and he completly lost it and threw a tantrum saying im insulting him and ruining all his profit.

people idea of what an item is "worth" are very seldom the same, such is life. I would rather shop around and find good deals on items I need and put the savings into a better scope to finish the rifle or into the next project.

I will sell for the max I can get out of it. There are some other things I can't get now or can't even find that I know I'm going to have to pay a premium for myself. If I want it or need it bad enough, I'll pay those ridiculous prices. My "want and needs" list just got a lot shorter though.

This whole issue will become moot if the manufacturers decide that they have priced their goods to low in the past and raise their prices to the level that is viewed today as gouging. If that happens the "evil gougers" will become nothing more that someone who sold for the going rate. I have plenty of shooting supplies so I have no need to buy or sell, but I clearly see the possibility for those who have chosen to sell items in times of crisis to regret doing so if prices continue to rise. Don't think for one minute that it's a sure bet that prices will come down in a few months. Around here, and I'm sure in other areas also, they were trying to throw gas station owners in jail for price gouging when they raised gas prices 35 cents to $1.70 a gallon after 9/11/2001. Those "criminals" should have been taken to the gallows. Look what happened to gas prices after that. Something to think about.
