Shooting bags?

I have always shot from a steel rest for sighting in, but my AR does not fit very well into it.

I have stolen the jean leg sandbag idea and that works ok. But I like the v and x bags I see online. Can anyone recommend one? I have some cabelas bucks to spend. I just want to make sure the bags are tall enought for the ar platform.

Either works fine. I would go to a gun shop and take a similer ar and try put them on the bags and see witch one you like better.

I have had good luck with the Caldwell bags, I have one bag that is a little more compact and lighter to drag to the range along with all my other stuff.

Caldwell Rock Jr and home made bags.

Works on ARs too...

Every rifle I own has a sling stud on the front, so I do all my range work with a bipod and a rear bag or monopod. Scott, that is a nice looking bag.

I have a bipod. I was thinking a bag might be steadier? I spend my cabelas bucks on a new bow sight, so I'm not as anxious now...lol...

What I need more than shooting bags is lower temperatures! I can't force myself to shoot when I'm sweating all over the gun!

My theory is that a filled bag can settle or shift. Once my Harris swivel or Atlas V8 bipod is leveled and locked, the front can't settle in any lower. Then it becomes a stationary pivot point and gives me one single place for adjustment at the rear of the rifle for elevation. I can squeeze the rear bag and get tiny adjustments out of it and not worry about the rifle settling in the front and rear. I also prefer prone shooting and a bipod suits that better than a front bag for me.

I use one of the Caldwell Rock Juniors as well and mate it to one of the small 'rabbit ear' leather shooting bags that is packed really tight with silica sand...

It's basically the same set up that one of the really good shooters at the local range uses, with the exception that he mixes his silica sand with a mold resistant liquid and fills his front and rear bags so that while being very hard, form to the stock of his rifle and it is still slick enough to allow the rifle to slide during recoil..

I think you just enjoy laying in the grass....LOL.

I use a Caldwell Rock Junior for front rest and my wife found some cloth bags 3" wx5"h 10"d with zippers for $1.99 at Hobby Lobby and filled them with fish tank pebbles which I use for the rear.

Works great with all my rifles.

On my AR' s I use a 2x4 or 6 under my grip.
