Light, sturdy and less than $100.

I used 1" birch plywood, not 3/4".

Nice claimbuster!

Approximately what degree did you make the angle of the legs come off the bench?

Thanks

Actually I bought the brackets from a guy that makes them up in North Dakota. I'll wonder down to the basement and get his name and address off a shipping label. I think I bought two extra sets. If so I may sell one set. Going to make another table but this one will be about 4" longer than the first.

BTW, I shortened the legs from 36" to 32". Much better with a conventional stool and I can slide it inverted into the back of the truck w/o removing the legs. Very light, easy to handle.

Hogghead! Dude! Now that is a shooting platform for our hills. Do you have a web link for it?

It works unbelievably well in steep terrain. I can shoot up and down hill and it takes less than 5 seconds to adjust it. All you need to do is turn the center black knob, and the whole thing pivots in the round cradle. It is actually ingenious. I have had several friends shoot from it, and they really like it.

If you go to the Hart & Sons web site, and look up "The Ultimate Tripod" you can easily find it. I give you my word that it is a Cadillac for shooting ground hogs, and it is rock steady. Not flimsy at all, and unbelievably adjustable. Tom.

Thank you all for the great feedback and suggestions. I have taken a tact to have a welder buddy throw together a combination of Sched 40 like the ones seen in Mongosafari and huntsmans... Thanks again!

I made one like this. Got the plans form PM. It's portable and It's sturdy. Sets up easy. I am going to have it out in the AM, I will take some pictures and post them.

Well, you guys inspired me. I have been needing to build a new portable bench for awhile now and just haven't gotten around to it, but after reading this thread yesterday it gave me some ideas and got me started.

It will be the three legged pipe leg style, but for left or right handed shooters. It will also have some scallops on the edge to lean rifles against, and a lip around part of the top to keep brass and stuff from rolling off. I cut the wedge blocks to go under the legs at work yesterday on the band saw with a taper cutting jig, used some oak from a pallet. I cut the top last night from a left over piece of 3/4" birch plywood, got the edges all smoothed down and radiused with the belt sander. Gonna go cut my pieces for the lips here in a few minutes, and will call the lumber yard and have them cut and thread my pipe legs for me.

Thanks for the inspiration to get me off my butt!

Other than the price, it is hard to beat the RCBS RASS for p dogs, i own one and like it a lot..... holds bolts and AR's just fine

Armor Shooting Bench of Havre, Mt uses an almost identical unit to Claimbuster.

The gentleman at Armor shooting benches would sell you the angled braces for$20 each.

the secret to this bench is the 4 legged model, with 1 1/2" plywood. It is so sturdy that you could set a 4oo lb Buffalo Heffer up on it!@

I went through making benches. You need a thick top, so that when you move our elbow just the slightest, that the weight change does not effect your point of aim.

I put four large handles on the sides of the benchtop, and it is easy to move. Legs screw out.

I found that my shooting was dramatically improved if I could get my right elbow down on something solid. If my elbow is flopping in the breeze...my shots are all over...must be a birth deffect.

Huntsman,I can see where you are coming from on that one. Bump the bench with one in a notch and over she could go, whereas if they are captured in a slot, they can't go anywhere. I think I will incorporate that into my design.

jtp, I'm not worried so much about a careful guy like yerself knocking stuff over. You never know when your buddies dog(that just rolled in fresh cow flop), will wander under to try to add some to your standing spares.....

I'm going to take a drill after mine and punch a 1" hole on each side. Then I can drop my beach umbrella through the hole instead of clamping it on.

Ive made 8 so far in different configurations.
The ground style is about 35lbs, the reciever mount is about 30lbs. Both swivel 360* and comfortable.
Both are fully adjustable, up, down, tops come off, everything breaks down also for easy transport.

The truck mount is cool. We can't use them in AZ, but it would be cool.

We can't use them in CO either. When in or on a motor vehicle, one foot has to be on the ground.

But then who's watching?
