i'm looking to pick up a shooting bench for my place and would like any info on them good or bad.i've looked at this one at dick's[bench] but it's hanging up on the wall and i can't really check it out.any help would be appreciated.

Now, as for the one you posted, it is a pretty decent bench. Cabela's also carries that bench marketed as a Herters brand. Very stable and folds down fairly flat.

I build the Rugged Buddy bench for about $60. Got the legs from Amazon and a sheet of plywood from the hardware. Very stable platform and rather compact once folded down.
 
Good benches are concrete, you have your own place.

A ironing board works just about as well as most portable benches, and travels well. You can also buy just the folding table leg kits, and with a little plywood, have a custom top to your liking.
 
I bought the one you are looking at, and am very satisfied. It is stable, easy to set up/take down and folds flat. A good buy for the money.
 
I built my own the legs unscrew for transport.

I also build one using the Rugged Buddy legs to the bench for about $60. I decorated it the way I wanted. It works great and folds up nicely.

thanks guys i should have added i can't biuld for poop.i'm going to pick up the one from dick's.just want a straedy bench that i can move around.thanks again.
 
if you can cut a straight line and install screws, you can build one of the rugged buddy style benches. if you dont have the tools i'm sure you know someone who has some basic stuff they'd be willing to loan you, or even help you with the project.

you'll probably spend more time putting a waterproof finish on it than you will assembling it.

I'd like to see pictures of the underside leg joints and to know the dimensions of the table top.
 
after reading how many of you make your own i copied the plans plant
.one poseted[thank you] and gave it another shot.the paint is drying it looks great.i have to get the legs to complete it.they come in 28" or 34" i'm only 5'5"?? thanks agian very much appreciated.
 
The height will depend on how you shoot. I am 5'9" and used the 34" legs...with a chair of a seating height of 18" it is great, even with a tall bench rest system. If you were to go with the 28" legs, I think you'd be scrunching too much, IMO. Mine worked out great and was a cinch to assemble...and I am NO carpenter.
 
You can always sit on a pillow, but not much you can do to shoot well off a bench that is too low.

Precisely how I am doing it. A thick and firm foam pad gives me enough elevation to shoot very comfortably.
