Shooting Ranges ???

Grizz here.
Well congratulate me. I now have to drive 60 miles one way
to shoot rifles at a shooting range. The range I was shooting at, Inland Fish And Game Club in Redlands Ca lost the lawsuit that was filed against them that alleged lead from bullets and shot was seeping into the ground water table. I'm sorry.
I thought lead came from the good earth in the first place!
What do I know. Now the Redlands range was a 30 minute drive for me with moderate traffic. Two years ago they Closed the San Gabrial gun club. This is where I use to do most of my range shooting. San Gabrial has been around since WWII, Shame. The Angeles Shooting Range is a Very nice well laid out range from what I can tell by thier website. Concrete benches at the rifle line, this I like. Only problem is, I'm in Orange County, Angeles Shooting Range is on the other side of L.A. I won't have to put up with this for long. I've been invited to join a private gun club, The Corona Sportsmans Club. 30 minutes from my house. Each member gets thier own key to the gate, and they do have night shooting. They have lighting. This gun club OWNS the property the range is on. Unlike the two ranges I mentioned above that had long term leases. I'll be able to join up in November. Rick

Im lucky I have 3000 acres to shoot on. I see posts of ranges closing more and more. The liberal fist keeps trying to tighten their grip every day. " Explitive" grrrr..

Most people are in some form or fashion conservationist and concerned about the environment but this radical environmentalist movement if left unchecked is going to stifle us as a society. Most of our major industries are under attack in some form or fashion by so called environmentalists or as I would refer to them as "professional protesters". Sorry to hear about your gun range.

Grizz, You will like belonging to a "private" club...I recently moved to our present location and have the St Louis Benchrest Rifle Club about 12 miles away by back roads and as a 'vested' member, have full access to five different ranges with 600yd max...

It's located out in the 'netherland' away from any normal subdivisions or town entities and the only people that live in the area are connected to the club in some manner...

While it's a little expensive initially, the availability to go and stay/shoot all day works out much better than me going to the Busch Conservation range at $3 per hour...

I may be mistaken due to time and memory, but I had a cousin that lived in LA years ago and I think Corona was where he used to go...He passed several years ago, so I can't verify that...He was a Sergeant with the LA County Sheriff's Dept Reserve Unit and where ever it was, a lot of LEOs used to shoot there as well..

Holy Crap.... another Good reason I live in Wyoming !

I belong to a private club here. In the last 2 years there has been a developer that purchased the property next door to build a subdivision. We have had to jump thru all sorts of hoops with the county to make a 1200' "safe zone" among an array of other changes in berms, large hay bails and other crap to make everyone happy. The range has only been there for 30 some years, I figure it will last till they get some houses built and people moved in that dont like the noise, then the lawsuits will start.

I may have to drive a ways to get to my "range" but once there I don't have any fees to pay, I got miles to shoot, I don't have any idiots around to 'accidently shoot me' and I have reactive targets most of the time. I hate rifle ranges anyway....I only go out of dire need to sight in something.

These posts remind me of how lucky I am. I don't think I could live like that. We have more people here then I would like, but we are worlds away from whats going on elsewhere.

Grew up in Taxifornia. The Orange county gun range was down by John Wayne airport, (before there was a John Wayne airport). They had to move it over by El Toro MCAS, because of housing/freeway/ect. Then that also was closed. So glad I live in Arizona.

My rifle range looks exactly like this. Where each dirt mound represents a potential group of reactive targets.
Maximum shooting distance is limited by the curvature of the earth and not much else.

I used to have to put up with the public/private ranges and had to drive and pay to shoot. Moved back to TN from FL and now have a 25 yd range right outside the side door, a 105 yd range right behind the house and a 233 yd range over on the back of our property. It is a dream come true for me to have the capability and freedom to do this. TnTnTn

Mr Turbo. I was not born here but I was raised here, my family
lives here as so does my wifes. I'm here due to that and the type of work I do. I'm stuck here until I retire. Doubt Arizona is much different than California friend. Oh wait, heres one difference, WE GET TO HUNT PREDATORS AT NIGHT HERE IN CALIFORNIA
