Really like that picture, John!
Well thought out setup, Jeremy; can tell this isn't your first rodeo!
I can't walk that far any more so just carry my "custom built" sticks and kid's camp chair by hand. Guess I'm also too cheap to spring for the store bought sticks.
What walking I do in S. Tx. is in areas with plentiful supply of rattlesnakes and I like the idea of poking around a bit in the high grass before wading in, making the solid sticks even more practical.
Have settled on two different lengths and choose the one that fits the anticipated needs when I leave the jeep (sitting or standing). Sitting sticks/child's camp chair are just right height to allow elbow placement on knees resulting in almost bench rest stability for the longer shots.
I have found that a bit of gillie material attached to sitting sticks provides enough cover to mask slight movements, such as made while using hand calls, that might otherwise alert an animal. You can either loop sling over one ear of sticks (above) or use the short bungie cord shown below to free up hands while preventing slippage of rifle.
Here's another off-the-wall use for my sticks that cannot be done with bipods and I would not recommend using more expensive "store bought" sticks to accomplish
:
Needing a field expedient target frame to check the 300 yard POI of my .375, found my sitting sticks filled the bill perfectly.
