I wan't to get a few five shot magazines for My AR-15 that are not much longer than the mag well. The longer 20 shot mags I have get in the way on my shooting rest. I know that C Products makes a short one, and I was wondering how the quality was on that one or some others.

Check out www.brownells.com they have 5rd john masen mags.
We have a 5rd limit here. Masens work, but you will need to take them apart and sand down the followers to get them to insert without denting the rd on a closed bolt ar. blue

I have been modifying the polymer 10 round mags that DPMS sells. They are flush with the mag-well, and are a better quality mag than any of the other 5 round mags that I've seen so-far.

Let me know if you want to try any, I just got another batch in.

Mike made me a few when I purchased my AR from him. They are nice and compact. I need to get another 2 from him soon.

Thanks for the info guys. I think what I really want is the DPMS 10 shot polymer mags since they don't hang out much past the mag well. I asked Mike at DTech if the DPMS mags will handle a COAL of 2.260 or longer because that would be a problem for me. 5 or 10 rounds doesn't make that much difference to me when shooting off the rest. I don't hunt anything larger than coyotes with the AR and there are no magazine restrictions for hunting varmints here.

I purchased an aftermarket mag that is a metal/polymer hybrid. I got it for $19.00 at a gun show. It has 2 followers that can be swapped out for a 5 or 9 shot capacity. The top 3/4 is standard AR construction, the lower 1/4 is polymer and just says ".223 CAL" on the bottom. The lower portion is angled so that only a small portion is visible from the mag well. I am going to locate the packaging tomorrow to see the manufacturer. It has been much better than my Bushmaster or Colt 5 rounders.

I have a couple of ten rnd mags for my AR. One extends out of mag well less than an inch and others are flush . I accually like the one that extends ....it is easier to see if it is loaded ,doesn't interfere with shooting from bench or carrying , and gives you something to "hit" to make sure the mag seats all the way up into proper location in mag well.....Mine is a .204 and I have my bullets at 2.262 in length and no feeding problems with a very small bit of room to spare.
