Im new to coyotes and to me they dont seem all that durable and pretty much a hit anywhere would kill them, but I want a nice clean kill.
Not the case.
Coyotes are tough critters...I've seen numerous cases where a coyote has been rolled multiple times with a 12 gauge buckshot load, and after they do a little roll and tumble, they keep right on trucking if it's not a vital hit. Even if they do get hit in the vitals, I have still seen them run aways before falling.
On a side note, I only use a shotgun, when 'pushing' coyotes, with mutliple guys. In this case, most shots are on running coyotes, unlike when calling, a lot of the shots will be stand still shots, which is why I like to use a rifle.
When using a shotgun, if it's a longer shotgun range broadside shot(40+yards), I will try to aim in between the neck and chest area (basically the shoulder area), in attempt to get pellets in both the neck as well as it's vitals. If the coyote has the afterburners on, I will aim a bit in front of it's head.
Hope this helps.
