Shotgun hunting- 2 3/4 shells only

Hey guys I'm thinking about taking both a shotgun and rifle when hunting. The problem is that my only two shotguns only shoot 2 and 3/4 shells. I have heard that #4 buckshot will work with this setup so what are some good shells to check out?

Also, when patterning, what do you consider a lethal pattern? a certain number of bb's in an 8 inch circle?

Both of the above 12 ga 2-3/4" shells are expensive but they should work great on coyotes.
The Remington 1-1/4 oz BB load should have about 60 tungsten BB pellets in each shell. I would much rather shoot the tungsten BB load with 60 pellets than shoot a 2-3/4" number 4 buck shot load with 27 or 32 pellets in each shell.

The Hevi-Shot 2-3/4" "T" shot load has 35 pellets in each shell.

I ordered both of these loads from Cabela's.

In my experience there arent a lot of #4 buck available. Get your hands on whatever you can and try em out. Dead coyote shells have a pretty good rep if you dont mind spending the $. Their choke also is supposed to be about the best around.

As for the pattern, you will hear a few different things but I think you have the right idea. Shoot em at a 6-8" circle and see what happens!

Id love to find some of those Remington HDs in 3"! Ive never seem em around here.

These Estate #4 buck shells pattern well for me with IC choke.

the rem HD 2-3/4" shells were putting at a minimum 12 pellets in a paper plate at 40 yards, at 30 yards I was getting up near 20 in the plate.

They seem to be kind of hard to find and run when on sale about $15 for 10.

I'd rather pay the $$ than have one get away. How much would you pay to get that one chance back ?

use 4 buck!

when i shot my coyote at 15 yards with 4 buck out of my mossberg 500 and just the regular screw in full choke i had upon skinning noticed, 4 bbs in the neck which ripped through it, 4 bbs in the chest about 2 in behind the arm, 3 bbs in the stomach and a few in the legs and feet! not bad for not using a fancy choke! i wouldnt put it past 30 yards without a extended choke. hmmmm taxes are coming soon

No need to pay full price for stuff. Anytime I get a Cabelas coupon or points saved, I buy the expensive stuff on their $$ .

+2...

Yeah, my little 870 express youth model, I shot 2 pine cones out of the top of a 70 ft tree at 30 - 35 yards test firing it. First one simply dropped. Second shook the cone and limb, and sent bark and straw flying. Third shot it brought limb, cone, and all down. Made a believer out of me in 3 shots! It is one lead throwin little joker!! I'd hate to think what it would do to a target at 15 yards.

what kind of shotgun you using? what ammo and what choke? im assuming a carlsons dead coyote shell, would that do more damage than 4 buck at 15 yards?

My SBE2 and a Kicks choke with BB lead,4 buck or DC T shot at 20 yards or less, is pure evil. I'm talking a ragged hole the size of a tennis ball .

That's good to hear WvYotehunter.. How many coyotes have ya killed with that Mossberg 500 and the Kicks choke?

What size shot are you using and what's been the distance on some of those coyotes?
