********Shotgun Setups*********

You certainly can use 00 but most folks here prefer the higher pellet count of the 4 buck. It's a distinct advantage on running shots. Some load their magazines with both.

I do. I load my mag like this: 00, 00, #4, #4. My first two shots, ideally at closer targets, will be with the smaller #4 buck. The last two, which shouldn't be required if I'm good enough, are 00 buck. Sure, there are fewer pellets, but those last two shots are likely to be at longer range where the extra energy of those large pellets should (and has) worked to my advantage. If I had plenty of cash laying around, I'd just load the mag full of Dead Coyote and call it good, but I'm a little more economically inclined (cheapskate?

) than that.

I wouldn't use anything larger than #1 Buck. #1 Buck is a much more overall efficient and effective shotshell load than the inefficient 00 Buck. And manufacturers are recognizing that with some recent efforts being directed at offering some premium type loads of this shot size. But for coyotes #4 Buck works remarkably well and at a good price point.

I just put the 21" remchoke barrel on the 1100. Placed the 10 OO buck loads in the box. Screwed the Briley Extreme range into the barrel. Not My 1st choice But we will be cougar hunting and I'll be packing the shotgun as back up and doing the calling for the main shooter. #1 buck is the smallest legal shot for Big game in Oregon. I need to find some extra hard #1 at a reasonable price. Nickel plated extra hard would be the best choice, I believe. Anyone ever seen such a thing?

Any #1 Buck should work for American mountain lions (given proper patterns). I am no lion expert but mountain lions have never earned a reputation for being tough or determined. African and South American professional hunters have used it for close range leopards, lions and jaguars for many years. And those big cats are tough and determined. Deer hunters down south in buckshot areas swear by it. Remington, Fiocchi, Winchester and Federal all offer #1 Buck loads.

I would assemble my own. Probably start with this one out of the Lyman 5th: Fed 3" paper base hull, fed209a, 42gr BlueDot, WAA12, 15 #1 buck, 1460fps, 10,400psi. Then just pack my 870 wingmaster with whatever choke patterns best. Or the Winchester hull 18 #1 load. I have everything but the #1 buck shot.

I've had this 11-87 since high school. Killed huge piles of birds, turkeys, and small game with it's original 26" barrel. Some years later I tracked down a 21" barrel and a Kick's Howler and have happily been pounding predators with it ever since...

If I were looking to buy a predator specific shotgun today it would likely be a 21" Benelli M2.......

PLOTBOSS

I am using a Remington SP10 with an improved modified comp-n-choke tube and winchester #4 buck. My hunting partner calls it "The Wand of Death".

I have a SP 10 game camo 24 inch com-n-choke buckshot xxful. Winchester copper plated lead BB's.
New Sx3 12 ga 26 inch extend mag mossy oak dead coyote 3 1/2 T''s dead coyote choke. I fount the dead coyote on sale for 25.00 a box. I went to buy some at bass pro for my 10 ga 48.99+tax a box. Can't find the hornady coyote load plus ark game and fish won't let us use buckshot on coyotes. They say it would be to easy for people to poach deer with buckshot. But we can use a 30 cal rifle for a calling rifle. BS I think. Anybody know where I can get some hornady coyote loads I may just start using buckshot on our land 1000+ a plus coyotes mess with our baby newborn calfs.U can use any method day or night to kill hogs and they r everywhere. U can spotlight on private land yr around. Load my shotgun with #4 buck for hogs. I have about 16 boxes of buckshot for my 10 ga mostly #1 and 4 a few 00 buck . Hi tengaue how do u like your gun wish mine would hold 5 rds. I bought mine new for turkey gun had it worked thru by gunsmith and custom choke made. I have killed predators deer turkeys. My dad bought it for me when we went on a goose hunt. I got to shoot some geese and when we got home he had me to order me one. I have a b square mount with a 2.5 scope and some 1 3/4 oz HP slugs for it too.

Just picked up a browning cynergy o/u. I am going to pattern a bunch of pure gold chokes that I have through it with rem hd bb, dead coyote and win. 4 buck.
I am depending on how the patterning turns out I hope to run a .680 in one barrel and .696 choke in the other . That set up will work well for the majority of the stuff I hunt. I also hope to be able to run a .696 and a modified pure gold as well for some really tight and close in your face type stands that I have been sitting more often lately. Only the patterning will determine what's going to work good.

Here's my primary coyote shotgun:

I have a 26" barrel for this one when I carry ONLY it and use my e-caller when hunting by myself, but most of the time, I'm calling for a partner (usually my wife), or using this as a back-up to my rifle.

Benelli SuperNova
Tac-Star +2 Magazine Extension
Pattern-Master Extended Range Choke w/ Federal #4 buck or Winchester 00 Buck
Carlson's Dead Coyote Choke (0.680") w/ any "flight control" wads
Carlson's 18.5" barrel
Factory 26" barrel
Hand-fit bipod adapter
Winchester Harris knock-off 9-12" bipod
Hand fit foam rubber cheek riser under Allen 5 shot stock wrap
Burris FastFire III 8MOA on a SpeedBead Mount

My wife runs another SuperNova 12ga with the same cheek piece, bipods + adapter, chokes, and extension, BUT with these instead:
Factory 26" barrel
B-Square Saddle Mount
Chinese Knock-off Tru-Glo/NcStar Red Dot
