Shotgun wedding sale (Thacker Jewelry store)

LUBBOCK, Texas (KXAN) — One Texas jewelry store is trying something different to attract couples and gun lovers tying the knot.

It’s called the “shotgun wedding sale.” If you buy a ring, you get a free shotgun or rifle.

Joe Thacker, Thacker Jewelry Store owner said “Who doesn’t want to get a shotgun or a rifle and in the process capture the love of their lives?”

Thacker started the shotgun wedding sale three years ago at his Lubbock jewelry store. He teamed up with a gun store to make the deal happen.

“Most guys grew up hunting. Or at least exposed to hunting if not by their family, but by their friends, or social groups. So it’s something that’s pretty natural for all of us,” said LSG Tactical Manager, Steve Burns.

“Farming, hunting, ranching it all intertwined. So it’s just a natural fit for Texas,” said Thacker.

Folks who buy a wedding ring at Thacker’s store will get a gift certificate for either a shotgun or a bolt action rifle. The sale is through this weekend, Oct. 27 through 29.

Get married and get a free gun..............ummmmm, I think I'll pass. Me thinks it would be cheaper in the long run just to buy the gun.

Gotta agree with this statement.
In addition, I do get to buy quite a few guns.

Just gotta space them out or wait until she buys shoes.

If the woman is used to dad, brothers, uncles hunting and shooting all the time, you are in luck! She only thinks it is the way men should be!

Me, too. When I met her 40 some years ago, I had a .22rf rifle, and a Remington 1100 12 ga. shotgun. Today I have two safes stuffed, and firearms stashed all around my home, shop, and truck.

I do bribe her with nice jewelry, and expensive camera gear. I never ask, so she doesn't get a vote on if I am getting a new firearm. She does ask, "How much does that one cost?", and I respond, "No where near what that Canon camera body you just got costs!"...End of discussion. But getting a shotgun or a rifle, with a wedding ring, just sounds wrong, unless one is from Texas.

hahaha, ain't that the truth..

Best part is that you get to keep all of them, and don't have to sell them off to pay for lawyers.

I admit I am jaded.
As someone that has been married 3 times. There really isn't a difference anymore for getting married. There just isn't enough of a reason to do so. having said that, and after 2 divorces.. I told my wife if she doesn't want to be married anymore, just shoot me in my sleep. (maybe the reason for the gun/ring combo) I would never get married again. They change when they get married and the change isn't for the better. I feel that if you just date, at least when you get sick of it, You send them on their way and you keep your stuff and save a fortune on lawyers. They have more of an incentive to not let themselves go, pick at you, and "love" you..

It's not jaded. It's intelligent and objective.
