Shotgunning coyotes. Barrel length mean much anymore?

That thread started in October of 2007. The pictures were hosted on Photobucket and we all know how Photobucket turned out. There is a detailed explanation of each combination shot that day in the thread. I think there is still value in the Summary, Updated Summary and Conclusion of the work. Bob did penetration testing and others contributed along the way. The thread really grew legs and took off. Over the years there have really been some very good and some very bad discussions about shotgunning predators here on PM. For fun, here is probably the biggest BS'er and fake we have had here over the years... 1ASSASSIN.

I will check the ole BSer out! And I will go back to your post and have a better look.

Johral, on this absolutely. The pics are rather meaningless anyway. Each shotgun is a unique adventure. The whole point of that thread is to show people that you have to get out and pattern your gun with your ammo and every choke you own.

I finally had bad enough luck with some chicken loads that had always been great in another shotgun I decided to see what was going on. I then talked to some guys who actually know shotguns and they told me you never know what you have until you fire the patterns and look. Man were they right! Not long after that we got an FFL and lots of folks were just goin bananas over Taurus Judges. I shot a lot of timber rattlers and copperheads out on the roads and in my yard with 45 Colt snake shot out of a 3 3/4 revolver, so dad borrowed a friend's judge and we took it out and ran several 410 loads through it. That was an eye opener too. If you're close enough to get enough pellets in them with the judge you might as well use a spade. To be fair, we never tried the expensive loads especially for the judge, but standard 410 shells are high enough already IMHO. Really appreciate you guys taking the time and putting up with my ignorance on this.

X2, and what load works best in your M4?

I use Hornady BB most of the time with a modified choke.

When I call using a shotgun it is always in Cougar country. Oregon requires #1 buck or larger for Cougar. 00 buck out of a 21" remchoke rifle sight barrel on a 1100 is what I have used. Most of the coyote I have shot run off a ways. I much prefer the results shooting the 223.

I just got done with it myself. Very glad I elected to take a leak BEFORE I read it.

I am going to need russian hip waders very soon...

I've looked all over online for these. Do you have pics of any? What's the difference between these and the standard Cabela's wader. You called it right off the bat! Good nose STS.

Also, I just bought a few boxes of the Hornady #4 24 pellet 2 3/4 loads to try. Only 12 gauge I have anymore is a 28" Beretta O/U so I will test it out next week hopefully. Do you guys feel they're a good effective load for the money when at normal prices?

P.S. It's now 10:09 PM and I have found the Russian hip waders. All is well.

I remember all that crap he spewed. I loved how he bolstered his legitimacy by stating that he had been in court thousands of times...was he the bailiff? There's no other way.

Wow, I just finished reading the old thread....now for a ten-one hundred!

There have been others over the years, but I doubt any of them beat 1ASS for best in class.
