As a LEO, I learned to operate a pump pretty effectively, but when I got into 3-gun competitions, there was no contest that the auto was faster for multiple targets and follow up shots..I still keep a pump for personal use..

Part of the reason is that just the recovery from the recoil is absorbed by the autos action and getting back on target is where it showed up...

If you do good maintenance on an auto, you shouldn't have many problems with the function...Shooting slugs or high density buck will tend to blow out the gas ring on a Rem 1100 faster, but as long as the shooter is aware of that and replaces them more often, it's not really a problem...

Here is the 1100 I used to use in the 3-guns...Shooting slugs at 40 yard from a pontoon boat at the DPMS 3-gun match..

It is a limited run Winchester 1300...All factory with a corrosive resistant finish...handles 2 3/4 and 3" rounds..It started out with a Cylinder bore and I added a Modified Choke to it...

I've thought about doing something with it, but it gets used so rarely, unless one of my grandsons and I go out to shoot some clay birds...I think it might decrease the value on it...

I grew up using pumps, Ithaca 37 and Rem 870. About 20 years ago I bought my first semi, a Rem 1100, after that a Benelli SBE and have never even considered a pump again.

Get the semi, it's no more liable to jam than a pump is and you can't short shuck it. Actually I can't remember either of mine ever jamming, but I can remember a few short shucks and once got a snickers wrapper jammed in the 870 action and like to never got it cleared.

Only benefit I can see to a pump is they're generally less expensive to buy.

Ecxplaining the wrapper jam. I was dove shooting and reached in my coat pocket for a couple shells. There was an old Snickers miniature wrapper in there that I didn't notice. I shoved it in the 870 along with the shells, first time I shucked it she jammed up tight in the action. Felt like a fool.
