Show me your shooting benches/tables

I am going to be building a shooting table in the next couple days. I'll probably loosely base it on the ones that I have seen in catalogs, but mine will be made of treated lumber. I want to see what other people have done.

I guess it depends on whether you are looking at a "fixed" or "portable"

Several members, lucky to have a 'backyard' shooting range have built some stationary benches out of concrete.

There are several plans for portables floating around. I have a friend that built one based on the Booger Bench that is excellent and easier to set up and use than my San Angelo. My son-in-law has one of the swivel type that he found was a pain in the wahzoo for ease of setting up and moving.

Had I not already invested in my San Angelo, I would have built one based on the Booger Bench,

Booger Bench

as it can be customized to fit you personally and is light weight, but stable.

I copycatted this bench from somebody on longrangehunting.com. It only costed $20, and believe it or not it works!

It has adjustable legs, made from a sawhorse. It folds up when done. I've added a crossmember between the front and back legs, for stiffness. Shoots uphill, or downhill.

Steady enough for long range hits.

I want it to be semi-stationary. I'll probably build it out of 2X4's and deck boards. It will probably sit out in my yard all the time and only be moved to mow the yard.

I do like the booger bench and saw horse idea, though. If there were varmints in Illinois, I would have something easily portable like that.

flybuster & claimbuster..nice bench's..i'd show ya mine but i'm to embarassed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

knockemdown - That looks almost identical to the AR that I'm building. Mines is a Bushmaster Varmint Special upper, Bushmaster lower, and a Magpul PRS stock. I'm really looking forward to getting it together.

How does that tactical rear bag work? Does it allow you to make elevation adjustments, or do you just find stuff to stack under it if need be?

Its nothing more than a glorified sandbag made from very durable material. Small enough to throw in the range bag or day pack when going afield.
LINKY poo

I'm a righty, so I squeeze the bag with my left hand for making tiny elevation adjustments when shooting prone.

It's a pretty solid setup as evidenced by this 200yd group with my 7WSM...

Nothing to be embarrassed about. Mine took so little time to build I should be embarrassed.

Between a portable hand saw and an electric jig saw I cut out the top from a piece of 1" plywood. A little sanding and then its the router to round the edges. Then, a little more sanding. There's a guy in Mandan, ND that makes these great brackets that just need drilling and bolting up. A little acrylic spray, then its off to Home Depot for three 32" pcs. of 3/4" pipe. Wam-bam....you have a stable, not too heavy shooting table.

I've used this one for two seasons and I am sold. I'm going to build another for a friend. One change I'll make, I am going to drill two 1" holes in the top for a beach umbrella.

Claimbuster,
Could you share where you got the leg hardware? That bench would make a nice gift for a buddy. Also, did you run any lateral support to underneath to keep the plywood deck from flexing in the center?
thanks...

Chupa,
SN3s...

Ours has to be weatherproof because its stays where we use it, basically. Delrin top and banquet table legs. Being just a bit flexible makes setting it up on uneven ground a snap. Had a little trouble getting the correct height stoll, my son and I are both tall, but nowadays it works excellent.

I got the plans to one like this on this site. It is easy to make . The only change I made is I used 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood. Put alot of sealer on it for weather proof and to keep scratching down. I don't know how you could go wrong with one, It's very solid when set up and it is portable. You can find a bunch of good ideas to get sarted on this site.

You can find the brackets for doghntr's bench on ebay. Some guy on there sells them for $25-30.

Yup...

I bought a set, and they're very well made.

.

Yes, I originally found the brackets on ebay. After the first go around, I started going directly to him. He also makes some cool steel silhouette targets.

I have contact information for anyone that is interested. Send me a PM.

Hey Knockem', no lateral support. 1" ply does not flex with normal use.
