Sierra 52g HPBT match as coyote killer?

By the way in pic #2 that dog was not hit in the guts and tail where the blood is, that is where the other dogs were laying on him in the pickup.

They worked just fine for me. No runners. No pass throughs.

Nice coyotes Lost River. Cute kid too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

One thing I think should be brought out is that we are all posting what we have seen or believe. One person can't kill enough coyotes in a season to thuraly test a certain bullet, and one person won't live long enough to test all of them.

How many coyotes do you think need to be killed by a certain bullet to conferm that its a good bullet for coyotes???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

One interesting thing to note.

A number of posters who have used this bullet state that they did not have an exit wound. They also seem to be using them at higher velocity than I have been.

I have been using them in .223s and at an average velocity of only 3,000 fps. I get exit wounds fairly often.

You guys can draw your own conclusions from that.

It has been my experience that my standard load of 25 grains H335 with the 52 grain SMK shoots very well in both my gas guns (AR15s) and bolt guns. I have not found a .223 yet that does not like this load. I see no reason to change.

Curt,

Thanks for the compliment, she is my little hunting buddy!

There is not a specific number of coyotes that will tell you about performance, but an endless number of situations, as in less than perfect hits, different angles, and such untill you get that gut feeling that this bullet will work. Then about this time you will hear of or see another bullet that is interesting and you just must try it. It's a never ending process, but it is entertaining.

OK..........

I have a gut feeling that a Sierra 52 grain BTHP wil effectively kill coyotes. Of course, I might find out differently the day before I die that's its not the best...

But for now....its my choice...

I'm with Bayou city boy on this one, 52 gr. sierra H.P.. In my 22-250 ackley i prefer the 52 gr. A-Max. Both are good bullets for serious coyote hunters..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
