I have finally found a load that shoots like I want from my 22-250, it is a 53gr match king is there any good reason I should not use these on coyotes/bobcats ?

One thing to remember with Sierra match bullets is, they use a very heavy jacket and tiny meplat and do not expand reliably. I have not used them on yotes. I did try them on sod poodles with not very good results. They are a very accurate bullet but they just poked holes in the pd's. I would expect pretty much the same results with yotes but like I said, I have not tried them in that application.

I think you should use a bullet designed for game though not for paper but they do work. just my .02

I used the 52gr SMK's for years and have been tinkering with others for the last 2 years. To this day they are still my favorite .224 projectiles for coyotes.

Chupa, Z,
What kind of damage do they do to coyotes or bobcats? Do they exit?

Featherbomb,
Everything I have read says the opposite, says they have a thin jacket

I am trying to get away from the ballistic tip bullets tired of the inconsistant performance
Splash one time and exit the next
Exit the size of a quarter one time and the size of a football the next
I have tried
Nosler bt
Hornady bt
Sierra bk

Seem to have the same results from all
So far on coyotes the best performance I have had is using the cheap 45 gr white box Winchester jhp
Trying to get something maybe with a little more weight and accurate and not explode

Go for it !!
there the ones I use in my 22/250 too. I run then over a load of Varget and push them around 3600 fps. They will got through a coyote ( two holes well under 1/2") if it is dead square to you out to 150 yards but any other shot they stay in ,and I've used them on dogs well over 300 yards with the same results DRT... The wind drift is workable and the drop is minimal. I line mine up at about 1/2" high at 100 and at three hundred yards you just have to keep it on the "FUR" and there yours.

I have shot so few bobcats that I don't feel comfortable in offering an opinion on them. However, IN MY EXPERIENCE they are extremely fur friendly on coyotes. I have shot coyotes ranging from 45yds to 250ish yards with that projectile and am simply astonished as to how few exits I had gotten from it and the ones that did pass through left an exit no bigger than a nickel or so, and I aim for the scapula on coyotes and occasionally hit it

. To muddy the water even further and seemingly baffle you with BS, In my estimation, I have had more exits with the 55gr V-Max than I have had with the 52gr SMK's.

I'm not prepared to say that the SMK is more explosive than a V-Max merely because I don't feel that my sample size is large enough with either projectile to be conclusive (75 or so coyotes with the SMK and probably less than 30 with the V-Max), but so far it does make one wonder.

You shouldn't have any problems. I have used the 52 gr Sierra BTHP Match bullets in my 223's and have never had any issues as long as I held up my end of the deal.

I Have been using the 52 Gr Sierra Match Kings for many a year on Rock Chucks, Sage Rats, P-Dogs,and yotes. They get the job done. The 53 grainers shoot the same as the 52's do in my 22-250. Can't tell the dif.

They are my favorite bullet in my 223 and 22-250. However, as always, they are not perfect. With my 250 I shot a small female looking at me head on at 113 yards in the throat last week and the back side was a mess. I had to leave her lay. Saturday I shot a large female in the throat at the same angle at 192 yards and there was an entrance hole and no exit. Got a decent price for her from the fur buyer.

53g sierra Flat base match is a great bullet for coyotes, I know from experience from killing a lot of coyotes with that bullet, it will shred a bob cat, like most bullets.

17's work best on bobcats.
