Sierra bullets

Could you clarify that a bit?

It seems that it is just a popularly held notion that you use sierra bullets at one time or another. They are good and available and reasonably priced. I shoot them ( and others)out of my '06 and they perform well.

I've never seen any FMJ explode like a V-Max. Maybe the jackets are thinner on the Sierra.

I could be wrong...............

Sierra FMJs are one of the few Sierra bullets I have no experience with. I would not think they were any different than any other in construction. I am sure some one here has tried them....

Despite Hogghead's rather slanted history. Sierra is still a privately held company. Until the mid 70's they were owned by the Leisure Group. Sierra is still the gold standard for the shooting competitions that use production bullets. They still win more matches than all other companies combined.

To sum it up: Their accuracy is top notch. Their customer service is the best in the bullet manufacturing industry. Their availability is as good as or better than other manufactures. Their QA/QC is excellent. Their price is competitive. Performance on game is reliable and consistent. I have taken every thing from bull frogs to bears with Sierra Bullets.

+1

Amen to that!

I shoot Sierra 50 Bk's and Hornady Vmax 50's and both have the same worked up load w/ H335 and they clover leaf paper and smash yotes! Sierra's my go to bullet for sure!

Well........after reading here for a few months, I've read about mostly Barnes, Nosler, Hornady, and a few others. I never realized so many use Sierra.

I've been using mostly Hornady and think it's time to run some Sierras.

never hurts to try a different food once in awhile, same with Bullets. Hardly anyone here shoots Bergers. I'm in a small club. LOL. I like those little 30 gr. Bergers at close to 5000 (4822-4839, V-130 powder) fps for short range medicine in a 22-250.

Then again I hunt small farms in a crowded area here. Ricochets are a no go in most of my hunting spots.

They do quite intesting things to Starlings at 75-100 yards on slow chuck huntin days.

Oh yea. they'll do a touch over 4000 fps in 223 with 4198, 26" tube.

I bet if you started a Berger Bullet thread that you would find a whole bunch of people shoot them as well.I use them in several guns 17rem. Tac 20 and have a Savage Predator .223 that loves the 52gr Berger.

I have been using Sierra bullets for many a year, but use Nosler's and Hornady's also never had much luck with Speer in the accuracy department the same with Barnes.

For some reason I never had Speer 22 cal bullet's work well either. In big game rifles Speer has worked fine. I like the 160gr 7mm HC, the 145gr 7MM HC and the 180gr 30 HC. I used to like Speer but only with those bullets.

I used to use Sierra exclusively for hunting. Now I mostly use Bergers in the 17 and 20 cal., and Hornady for most everything else. Hornady's seem to be a few dollars cheaper, shoot almost as accurately, and kill deer and other critters just as quick. Just my opinion.

Shoot them all the at the range,in Ca we can't hunt with them (saving the condors).I use the 75gr HP's in my 243 and they shoot great, accurate and fast, wish I could hunt with them. When they were in Ca we used to buy their seconds by the pound, cheap shooting.

Yeah, the problem is most other posters here don't know about them either!!

Sierras cost less, and shoot as well or better than BT and Vmax...they often kill groudhogs better, also.

Try the .224, 40 gr. HP and 60 gr. HP

I shoot Sierra bullets almost exclusively. The only non Sierra bullets I use is the 75 gr. AMAX in a 1 in 9 twist 223 bolt gun because it won't stabilize the 80 gr. Sierra. The other non Sierra bullet I use is the 6.5mm Speer 90 gr. TNT out of my 260's. Other than that it is all Sierra bullets.
