Sightron SIII or Leupold Long Range

Getting into this long range shooting. Though I have pretty much narrowed it down to what gun I am going to get I am torn on scope choice. Sightron SIII LR 6x24x50 with 100 MOA of elevation. OR Leupold VX3 LR 8.5X25X50 with 94 MOA of elevation. I have had the chance to look through the Leupold and was impressed with clarity of glass. Never looked through a Sightron. Seems everyone loves their Sightron when reading reviews. I would like opinions of those who have had experience with similar scopes. Thanks.

Did a lot of reading on the search engine between the two scopes mentioned. What I really need to do is get my hands on both and do a side by side comparison.

I've owned multiple SIII 8-32x56 scopes, at 30 power the glass is noticeably better than the $2000 scope I'm running now, they are without question better optically then the vortex pst I've shot behind.

I liked the turrets, I had both covered and not, liked the moa reticle with the center dot. I and many others used them for fclass, they always returned to zero, they adjusted correctly.

They are just plainly a scope that does what it says and has better glass than anything I've seen at the price. The nightforce nxs' I've been behind didn't outshine it.

Leupold is leupold, can't go wrong but I wouldn't expect anything life changing either.

I actually have both scopes that you are looking at and its a tough decision. The glass is to close together to tell the difference. I would say the turrets are better on the sightron. The other good thing is now sightron as the illuminated reticle available for the scope you want. I looked on their website the other day and its brand new for 2015. I dont know if your interested in that but its just another option to look at.

I would go with the Sightron....great scope. I'm not sure how their warranty is because none of my Sightrons ever needed repair....the warranty you never use is the best kind for me.

The Sightron has better turrets and is a bit better in low light as well.

I can't honestly say I've looked through or handled a Leupold comparable to the one you're talking about, but I do own a Sightron SIII and it's hands down the best scope I've ever had on any of my rifles.

I got to do a hands on comparison between the two, and you fells are correct the Sightron SIII is good stuff. Problem is I made the mistake of looking through a Burris XTR as well. All that did was complicate matters.

Curious to find out what you go with. I, too, have narrowed my target scope choices down to these two scopes. I have looked through the LR target a few times, but have never been able to find a sightron on the exact same time. I have an older S-II and I am amazed at how clear that scope is for the money. I can only imagine what going up to a S-III does...

Both are good scopes. I have owned 3 of the Leupold VX3 8.5-20X50. Leupold's warranty is the best available. I no longer own the Leupolds only because I wanted Zero Stop, so I bought NightForce. IMO the Leupold's had a tad more clarity than my NXS's.

TripleL, you have been forewarned about Burris XTR scopes. Do not look through one unless you want to be frustrated even more. lol

Has the Siii been updated lately? Last I checked, it had .5 Moa adjustment which left you with only 2.5 Moa per turn...far from ideal for long range. Just my opinion...

as i have been reading this i was going to suggest the Burris also. i have been eyeing the Sightron for awhile waiting to get some cash saved up when the Burris came along with all the excellent reviews! now while i'm still saving for a scope i will have to decide between the two. from the reviews it seems like a coin flip!

I've seen some Sightron's show up at our 1000k matches. No one is bitching or sending them back. Some of the Leupys...I'm not going to bash them.

That's where I'm at right now, trying to decide between the Sightron SIII 8-32 or Burris XTR II 8-40 with the F-Class reticle. The Burris has a 34mm main tube, zero stop, FFP and MOA-H reticle also a great reputation. The Sightron is 30mm main tube, SFP, non zero stop and also a great reputation. I will be using this new scope for rock chucks, coyotes and long range steel.

I really like the Sightron MOA-H reticle for wind hold but the SFP part kinda bugs me, you have to use 24 power setting to coincide with the reticle where the FFP can reticle can be used at any power setting but does not have the wind hold dots.

I have had a Sightron SII (4-16x) for several years, as well as an older Burris 8-32x and if I dial the Burris back to 16x, the Sightron is slightly brighter/sharper for my eyes...My 14x Leupold would fall in between the two...But then, it's through my eye sight...

I will be in the market for a new higher powered optiic in another month or two and if I were making the decision today, Sightron would get the nod...If I could afford one, or had a lot of extra pocket money, I would look seriously at the March brand of optics...The representative had about six of the different types at the PM Egg Shoot this year and I was really impressed with their variable 50x ones...(they have variable ones that go up to 60x)
