Silencer on an AR question.

It will be on only when I am hunting paper and popcans.

Why is it in the predator hunting forum? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I have been thinking of getting one of these for my .223 CZ. I will have to save up some money because my wife won't let me buy one, she's a meanyhead, that's what my 6 year old used to say, he he.......I know one guy that has one on his 22-250. He loves it too.

I just made an adapter to put my silencer on my new Olympic Arms AR. The rifle is a 16" carbine, and the silencer is a large can 1 1/2" x 6". My question is the added pressure of the silencer going to be dangerous or will I maybe run into feeding issues with this set up? Does any body have any experiance with this sort of thing?

What caliber was the can originally designed for? If it's a big aluminum can made for .22s you could find yourself in trouble. If it's a heavy steel can made for 5.56 then you'll be fine. Before firing that first shot, take the bolt out of the rifle and sight down the bore and make sure that adapter was built square. You don't want a baffle strike.

The only negative I saw when I started using a suppressor on my AR is the extra gas blowing back in the action. You might get a little bit of that gas in your eyes through the charging handle and your rifles action will get dirty rather quick. I added a JP adj. gas block which helped cut the gas ALOT. If you reload, using a clean burning powder will make a huge difference on the crud build up. I switched from BL-C2 to Varget for that reason.

Boys, I dont want to pee in anyones flakes but regardless of usage(hunting/paper/cans/bowling pins-doesnt matter)...........If you have any type of suppressor/silencer then you gotta jump thru some hoops............gets some paerwork, a visit to the local constable, some fingerprints, some more paperwork, pay the $200 tax, and about a years time will get the right to own a suppressor legally......then you can go buy the "can"....they are awesome but the comments above are all pretty much right on as well!!!

Don't worry. I am completly legal. I had to have 3 sets of finger prints made. Fed, state, and county back ground check. 9 month waite, and the $200 stamp.
I own a certified welding business with my father. Several years ago we had a customer that made silencers for police and military. I traded welding 20 silencers and he gave me one, and walked me through getting the paper.
The silencer is stainless steel and machined from solid bar stock. These things are HEAVY.
