Simmons Master series Aetec scopes

OK don't bash me for liking the OLD Simmons Aetec 2.8-10x44 . It was a good scope for the money and I abused the hell out of it and it never failed me. Well, last week I bought a new rifle. So I ordered a new Simmons Master Series Aetec 2.8-10x44. It arrived yesterday. I open the box thinking this thing should be better than the old one's. NOT! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif What a pile. The new people that took over Simmons turned a good affordable scope into a piece of junk just like there lower end scopes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

I am kind of on a budget because of my little ones right now. What would you guy's recommend for a scope under $250.00? Do any of you know a shop that might have the old Aetec scopes in stock yet?

Added:This new scope will be for a .270 Win.

I have an old AETEC on a 270 also - It has served me very well. I also looked at the new AETEC but did not like them. The Burris FFII can be found for a great price and is my new favorite scope at that price point. I have only had it for 1 yr. though. Look for tham without the "Free" extra bonus items on line for a great deal.

This Mueller Multi-Shot (2-7x) is designed for use on a shotgun as well as a rifle ($160). I have one on an AR that I use in competition and love it.

Muller Scopes

I have an older Aetec 2.2-10x as well and know what you mean about quality.. I looked at a newer one and passed.

I really love my two old AETEC's, one is on a 280 Remington Mountain rifle and the other is on a Rem 8mm mag Classic.

I had a brand new Weaver 3 by 9 classic produced before Meade bought out Simmons, Weaver and Redfield from Blount/Alliant. It was shipped broken and had never been on a rifle, it had a bent tube according to Weaver's tech department. It took six months of dickering, fighting and threatening to get that brand new scope exchanged/fixed. I'll not buy another one of their products.

Well I need to check them out first. But my next scope is either a Bushnell 3200 Elite 3-9x40 or a Burris FFII 3-9x40.

Thanks guy's,
Mark

I liked the old simmons aetec where a real good scope then i saw new ones on ebay going real cheap on ebay and it had me suspisious so i did a few searches and sure enough so i didnt buty one ,its a shame they completely ruined a good name for a scope.

light's..consider a vx-1..in a 2x7 or 3x9..i have kept waiting for good review's on the Aetec..the 2.8 x 10 seem's perfect..i looked through one @ cabela's several month's ago..looked real good..of course looking through a scope in the store mean's nothing..the problem is i haven't noticed a good review..haven't spent time worrying about it either..just kinda figured guy's here would say thing's..not much is really said..so i guess that say's something..

+1 on the VX-I. I have a couple of "nicer" scopes but my calling rifle, which I use far more than any of my other rifles, still sports the VX-I 2x7 that I put on it although it should have one of the nicer ones. Optics have come a long ways, they are all clearer these days than ever before and I doubt most people can tell much of a difference anymore, at least I can't unless you get into a wide spread like a blister pak Bushnell vs a Zeiss. Get the VX-I and get the eye relief, FOV, and customer serivce so you won't have to worry about it ever again.

I bought a 4-14x44 simmons Aetec based off of the quality of the old scopes thinking the same thing. I am in the same boat. Mine has the side paralax adjustment, and I can't tell that it does anything at all. As far as I'm concerned they just added a nob to make people think it had paralax adjustment. I called Simmons customer service to ask how it is suspose to work and the guy I got told me he had never seen one and had no idea.

Elite 3200! I have two of them and also ahigher end 4200. I bought all mine from Natchez. If you phone them (1-800-251-7839) they will quote you the best price I've ever found on the internet.

Oh, and the Rainguard will let you make shots when most other scopes have the lenses fogged from the shooters breath.

That's too bad. Was a big fan of the old ones. I have I think.....2 Aetecs and 2 44 Mags. Like them all. Might have to step up to the Burris next go around (which will be a while)

+100 for the Elite 3200!

I have 3 and they are great! I like them more than my 2 Burris FFIIs, nicer than my Sightron S1 and MUCH better than a Simmons AETEC I had(very briefly). That thing broke on a .204 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The best bang for your buck in that price range is the 3200...

Lights----I'm curious as to what it is about them that is not to your liking. I've no experience with one, but LOTS of experience with the older models. Great glass on the older ones. Biggest problem, broken reticles.

My personal opinion, on "cheaper" scopes, is that the Weaver Classics are the best for the price. The 3200's are right there also, but no better than a lesser costing Weaver IMO. This comes from MUCH experience with all 3.

I pretty much stay with Leupold now, with probably the Nikon Monarch being my next choice on affordable scopes. But Weaver Classics and 3200's are good buys, as was the older Aetec's, who had excellent glass, but not really top notch durability.....

if you dont want to spend a lot of cash and want a decent scope for the money ive bought 2 bsa ill redicules scopes in 3x10 x 50 mm for about 100.00 bucks from the sportsmans guide and guess what they are great sure /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif beats the hell out of the pos tasco scopes that i bought and threw away in the past tasco is the bottom of the barrel in scopes but the bda's are nice and clear for the bucks
