Simmons scope question

Guys,
I Just bought a box of misc. stuff from a guy and included was a Simmons Diamond Mag 3.8-12x44 WA scope. It has been carried a lot but other than scuff marks it appears to be in good usable condition. Assuming that it is in usable condition, is this scope any good? I don't know anything about Simmons other than they do make some inexpensive scopes, but maybe they make some good ones too? Thanks for any help, Mike

Not sure about the scope you have, but I have the Aetec SF WA 4-14x44, Awesome scope!

I haven't tried all Simmons Scopes, or have done any Bench Testing on all Simmons Scopes, to get a true opinion, but I know this one works Great!

I have an Aetec on my 223 AR15 and also on my 6.8 AR15. Holds zero great, clear, never a problem. Both rifles I use for Predator Hunting, and have killed a few with the exact scope. After owning one, I can truly say I have a positive opinion on the Aetec.

Here is a target shot at 100 yards using the 6.8 and the Aetec Scope.

Simmons doesn't make scopes. They have them made to their spec's and price point. Unfortunately they're mostly associated with lower end scopes. Some are cheap, many are ok but not great. They've also marketed some real good ones. The discontinued 44Mag scopes were very good. I've used a Presidential Gold Silhouette for many years and it's an excellent scope. Undoubtedly there have been others. Best way to find out about your Diamond Mag is to use it. All that matters is how well it works for you, and if you like it.

I bought a newer china aetec, not SF, screwed the cap on after sighting in, popped the whole turrent out of the scope, looked like the sealer on the threads was all that was holding it in, it wont go back for service, trash. ed

Bought old Aetec scope and love it. My first 22-250 had a Simmons on it and i shot over 150 yotes with that one. Try it out and see what it will do for you.

I have a Japan made 4-12X40 Simmons on my .223 single shot and it works well for that. The older Japan and Phillipines made Simmons are much more serviceable than the China models.

I have a .44 mag Simmons 6-24x44 SF on one of my varmint rigs and have had no problems to date using it for a year now. Its been in the snow, rain, dirt & dust and still works perfectly. They are not ALL bad scopes.
The target above from lastcat is like the ones I have with my scope.

I bought one of the newer scopes. It went from a .223, to a .22lr to my son's pellet gun. I HATE the scope. It was the worse scope I have ever bought. I think I would buy an NC Star scope before I bought another.

I agree. I don't believe the newer China made Simmons are in the same league as older Phillipines made scopes, let alone Japanese models.

I believe the Simmons Whitetail classic 6.5-20x50 is still made in the Phillipines.

I guess Bushnell was smart enough to at least keep one Phillipines made Simmons.
