Sitka Gear

Just curious if any one has any Sitka gear and what you think? Theyre expensive but I like the fact that you can be warm and not have layer upon layer of bulky clothing. Or so they say...

Basically Sitka is taking what companies like Patagonia, Mountain hardware, Rab, ect ect have been doing for YEARS and giving it to hunters.

They arent doing anything new or exciting, just offering great fabrics and concepts in camo patterns... basically.

I too have been wanting some sitka gear, paticularly there pants.

But if your not familiar with that style of clothing, you maybe some what disappointed. It is not a single layer system, in fact it is as far from that as can be. Most of there products are individual layers which when used together equal a ideal system.

For the whole enchalada youll be looking at base layer, insulation, perhaps a softshell layer, hardshell.

Im very familiar with this layering system, I just have not used Sitka brand clothes to accomplish it.

I have a set of the Sitka clothing and I really like it I just think it's way over priced. I usually can get by with my underarmor the sitka traverse zip t, the clsius vest and the ascent jacket which has less bulk than most jackets I own.

If I was to buy anymore clothing like that I would stick to the Core4element stuff that you can get for half the price on camofire or the new kryptic line.

My cousin just bought one of the core4 jackets the other day on camofire and it is basically the same as my sitka jacket, but in a different pattern and was half the price.

I have several sets of Sitka and they are worth it!!

Yes, they cost some extra cash, but they are so functional. It's like wearing pajamas while hunting. And they are very tough and durable.

Try some and you'll never wear cotton camo again!

I found some great prices on Arctic Shield at natchez and bought a set of it. I love the fit/feel of it but it hasn't got cold enough to try it out yet. Maybe next weekend. I got the H6 Bibs and Jacket, boot insulators and System gloves all for less than $300. Might want to give them a look. They aren't bulky and are very quiet. The older stuff used to be loud, sounded like it had cellophane layer in it.

Sitka is excellent stuff dang near top of the line. You get what you pay for, I have been buying a piece or two a year. But have bought the Kuiu gear this year and absolutely love it.

I just got some of the Sitka Gear stuff. It fits very well and is really comfortable. I considered some of the other lower priced brands but I have been reading good things about Sitka. So I just sold my wife's car and after the sitka purchase I ended up having $100 left over for beer.

i shoped around and got all of mine from 30 to 45%off so it really wasn't any more than most of the other stuff.it is really nice stuff warm and very lite weight.i have some kuiu i think it is also great, not as expensive because it is sold direct. very waterproof without any laminates so it breaths better.

I feel I work way to hard to pay those prices for camo. When I see a ball cap prices at $25 and I think what can they do to a plain old uninsulated cap to justify the extra $10? Just and example of being over priced and just buying a brand name. My 2 cents, but I am old school too.

mountain archery has traverse bottoms for 47.94 today not any more than other good thermal wear.you just have to look i think mine was worth every penny, and i earned it

In the last couple of years I have really become a sitka believer...The pieces and parts came in slowly but I have put it to the test here in the high desert and this stuff still impresses me...last year I only missed 9 days of my mule deer bow season and my sitka gear almost looks new...I don't have all the heavy layers as we do not need them here but I have found the ascent pants, transverse long sleeve, jetstream vest, and head gear does great here for almost any hunting situation....that being said, I would like to try the mountain pants this year as they have built in knee pads, which is completely ideal when making a mulie stalk. Pricey but worth it. BTW the optifade open country is amazing at "being gone" if I get busted by moving I just sit still and with in 1 minute the deer and coyotes look right thru me....like i am not there. watch your face and hands....most hunters don't realize how much their skin glows in the sunlight. Don't really know why I just went on that rant, but I spend alot of time studying camo.

+1 I use the Optifade forest everywhere even coyote hunting in the snow with coverups. Its low bulk to warmth cant be beat with coverups and coyote hunting. Im sure open country is ideal for warmer conditions. Ive also been looking at the new high performance cabelas stuff.

As they say "turning clothing into gear". It's really designed as camo mountaineering gear for hunters who pack into the back country. If ya ride around in the truck and only walk a few hundred yards to make a stand then there probably isn't any real benefit. But if ya walk/hike your tail off and weight is an issue this is where it really shines. And no other gear except maybe Kuiu is even close to the quality. But it won't help ya kill any more animals than a pair of Carhart overalls. It isn't just a brand name. The brand means quality and quality comes with a price.

Funny thing is if you buy it off season then it is as cheap as under armour without the gay mossy oak camo patterns.

I just got the ascent series open country and so far I am more than impressed. its soft and quiet. ill let you know after the mulie season here how it holds up on open range stalks.

I love my ascent pants, the only thing I did to make them a bit better was sew in some old volleyball knee pads...makes a huge difference when trying to approach low or sitting on your knees.

I have pair of the mountain pants the knee pads are a real plus. I 'm thinking about buying a pair of the timberlines with the water prof knees and seat anybody tried them?

This was taken last October when we hunted with Tony Tebbe. Two days before, it hit 90 and we were wearing cotton tee shirts. The morning of this pic, it was snowing, which was followed by a 30+ mph wind. The temp never got out of the 30's. It's good stuff, but it's price-wise it's high as a a cat's back. I think the camo pattern looks great.
