this piece slides out of the end

this is just a link of chain. I cut the one end and welded a piece in, if you can make it out.

this is just the tie off

I welded just a heavy duty lock washer to this piece to run the rope through to keep it out of the way

this is a the shortest setting. you can see how the rope is ran

this is it extended up all the way I think, maybe could go up alittle bit more but thats my set up, you maybe could extend it for a pickup

Just wanted to bring this thread back up to say "Thanks!" again to everyone that provided input and advice.

I started cutting and welding on my skinning pole last night and should get it done today. Ended up using ideas from a lot of you. I'm actually making two of them. One for full size pickups with hitch recievers and another one for smaller vehicles or ones without hitch recievers (using Tawnoper's idea of a plate under the tire). The bigger one is a break down, two piece, with a winch, goes about 7 feet up from the hitch. Going to make a third piece that goes down towards the ground with a hook as well. IF the whole thing is tall enough, I'm thinking I can then tie off the pelt to the bottom hook and use the winch to peel just like using a come-along to peel them horizontal. If that works, it sure makes working the face down a lot easier. Not too sure the whole thing is actually long enough for that though - will just have to wait until I start using it to find out.

Anyway, should be done with both today, just wanted to thank everyone for their help again.

if you do any more videos why not include skinning a coyote from start to finish, I sure would like seeing one done, as I only end up saving the really nice ones and paying someone to do it for me.

Well... I didn't have enough time to get it all done today after all. I did get the main pole finished except for the third/optional piece though. Here's what it looked like before I rattle canned it black.

Need to get some new rope for the winch, but other than that, it's ready to use.

Closer view of top piece with pulleys in brackets.

I "think" if I make another piece hanging down another foot closer to the ground to tie off the pelt to, it's going to be long enough to use the winch to peel with. If not, no big deal, the winch will still be real nice just for hoisting them up and keeping the work at a comfortable height.

Steve, I was kinda thinking the same thing today. I see questions about skinning often enough. Of course, I'll have Blaine's skinning and fur handling DVD remastered and ready to roll pretty soon. But I was thinking I might just film a few real short skinning segments to put on youtube or something as well.

Dang DAA now you just cost me more money. I must either make or buy something like this now.

It never ends.

Good thread.
