Sling for an AR

So I need a little help in the sling department now....
I have a Magpul PRS on this thing and a JP free float tube. Here is a picture of the mounting hardware I got with the free float tube/handguard....

So now, I'm not sure if I can mount one of these Quake Claw riflesling onto this rifle with this particular stock. Have any of you done this or do I need to be looking into a VTAC hunting sling?

The reason I'm not sure is that I don't see a hole in the Magpul stock where I would be able to screw in a swivel for a sling. All I see is that bar at the back, left side of the stock where it appears a sling or nylon strap should wrap through it in order to attach the sling.

I would think about mounting a sling, especially at the hand guard closer to the top, if possible...That way when you carry the rifle, it will tend to sit flatter against your body, rather than wanting to turn on you...

If you are only going to carry it over the shoulder, the standard mounting will work, but I prefer to have mine across my chest/stomach...as in a 'tactical' carry...

I only use my front sling stud for mounting my Harris bipod...
 
I have the same handguard. That mounting hardwear is a swivel stud and a backing plate. You can put that backing plate behind any of the vent slots on the handguard. I mount my sling on the side of the rifle because AR rifles aren't very comfortable to have on the bottom with all the grips magazines and stuff you can put on them. Use a knife and take apart your sling so you can thread it through that bar on the back and then once you mount the stud on the handguard you can use the normal sling attachment on the front. I put one of the JP tac rails on my handguard and then I am using a Daniel Defense QD sling attachment and then a Daniel Defense carbine tube QD sling attachment on the buffer tube in the back. I also carry my AR on the front like a semi-tactical setup. I have walked up on coyotes before so I like to have the rifle handy.

When you guys mount the sling so you carry it across your chest, do you put the stud for the handguard on the side of the handguard facing your chest?
 
I have it on the side facing me in the 11o'clock??? position. It is somewhere between 9 and 12. I will get some pics tomorrow. I tried the back postion on the collapsable stock itself and the rifle hung down too low (I have an LR243) so I got one that attached where the buffer tube connects to the lower reciever. It works great.
 
You are right that is a much simpler setup. I actually had that exact sling and the matching Blackhawk attachment point. My rifle has an 18" barrel and it is the large frame AR and it hung down too low. That is why I went to a 2 point setup.
 
I built a double shoulder sling [like one of the sponsors here (but better
grin.gif
)]...and put push button QD swivels on it. Paired up with flush cups on the stock and hand guard, it's hard to beat. Perfectly balanced between the shoulder blades to split the weight evenly. Virtually impossible to have it accidentally slip off even during a fall.

I'm not made of $$ and enjoy building my own stuff. I've never actually USED one from a vendor, but if they are as nice as the one I made for myself...I'd recommend something like that.

(Here is a GREAT solution to your stock issue not having much for mounting options)

If you just want something to work with your current hardware, I can't help ya there. Not my preference of hardware.

I put a Noveske QD end plate adapter on my AR for my Troy single point Battlesling, but I'm not sure if it will work with the PRS. It is the cheapest one out there and the sling is great. However, I think cbass's idea is much better! Those look sweet
