small rifle magnum primers

i just got back into reloading and i have everything i need to start rolling some new rounds but powder and primers but ill i can find are small magnum primers never worked with them before what brands of powder can i use with these

They're fine for any load you like to try them in. Usually reserved for the slower burning powder, but certainly not limited to them. Load em up, work up and happy shooting for you.

You don't say what caliber is involved, but I use the SR Magnums in most of my .204s and some .223s with light bullets and a fairly fast burning powder...They tend to give me better and more consistent accuracy...

I prefer CCI 450's for my .223 loading. The extreme spread dropped with the magnum primers, and they supposedly have a thicker cup too. That is an extra measure of safety for AR loads that have the possibility of a slam fire.

CCI450's have a thicker cup, nice especially if you have a firing pin hole in your bolt that is over size and tends to crater primers.

I use Tula/Wolf SRM primers in all my loading that require small rifle primers. 30 BR, Hornet, and .223 (3 different bolt guns in .223. A Rem 700 Tact, Savage FTR and an Savage Axis. Those Tula primers are the cats butt and cheap too.

You might look up Space Coast Bullets in Melbourne, FL...I picked up my last bricks of Wolf primers there a few months ago...They do ship...They generally have a pretty good supply of reloading items...

You just got to look daily for primers and such. I usually buy mine from Powder Valley but haven't looked for a while. I bought plenty prior to the election.

i found some small rifle primers but with the hazmad and shipping it was around 120 for 1000 no thanks, i do have another question about the magnum primers i only have one manual it is a lee 2nd addition and i cant see where it calls for magnum primers or normal primers how do i tell if a powder takes magnum or normal

If it's not specified as needing magnum level primers, then I experiment with both...Just with smaller powder charges when switching to magnums and working up to the most accurate load....My .204s (bolt and AR) seem to give better accuracy with the magnums...

It's kind of a unwritten rule of thumb to use magnums in semi-autos since most have floating firing pins and the magnum primer cups are slightly thicker and there is less chance of a slam fire, even though those are a rare event...
CCI also puts out an Arsenal primer for ARs but not everyone carries them....

ok today i got my powder hodgdon h335 and cci small magnum primers i was looking through the sierra manual while my gun guy was figuring up what i owed him and saw for a 50 hp,sp with the powder and the primer the starting charge is 25.0 with velocity of 2975 and the max is 27.0 with the velocity of 3262 so my question is i have my mind set on shooting 50 vmax from hornady in my t/c venture so would i start with the 25.0 and work up it just doesnt seem that i could work up alot more before i hit the max

i just got done looking through my lee manual with the same powder and the same bullet weight there starting charge is 24.0 with muzzle of 3166 and the max load is 26.0 with muzzle of 3393 so which manual should i follow the sierra or the lee

I'm familiar with the test set up that Sierra uses for testing, but not what Lee uses...It may be due to the difference in testing means, or one may be more concerned about liability issues...Sierra usually provides accuracy factors as well as hunting factors in their tables...I've never understood why they publish for different standards since, when hunting, I want my most accurate loads...

i hunt coyotes year round summer fall and winter how does the h335 perform in all temps i do most of load developments in the summer in a garage

I load H335 for several rifles and hunt in cold and hot weather and have not had any issues. My sierra book recomends small rifle magnum primers for 223.
I allso load H335 for my Rock River 6.8 and my book recomends small rifle primers for it.Go figure! I do get better accuracy using small rifle magnum in my 223 and better accuracy in my 6.8 using small rifle.

I use magnum primers for all my loadings in small rifle, large rifle, small pistol, and large pistol. It keeps things easy for buying in bulk. Like with any component change, start low and work up.
