Smith and Wesson Sigma 40VE

Hello.

Does anyone have an opinion on the S&W Sigma in .40 cal? I have been around guns for a long time. Rifles ane shotguns and I have a .22 pistol. New to the world of Semi Autos. My dealer has them on sale NIB for $299.

My research seems to indicate the 1st models (10 years ago) had some problems but the new production the "VE" models are pretty reliable.

Opinions please.

Thanks

Greg

I have one. The only complaint I have is the trigger pull is a little heavy, but I have only put about 50 rounds through it. If your looking for somthing comparable to a Glock or a Springfiel XD, you may as well spend the extra money and buy one of those, but if your looking for a decent semi-auto for a good price it is defanately (spelling?) worth it. I like it because it fits my hand perfectly and soon as I come up to the ready position (Modified Weaver or Isocles) it is instantly on target. The trigger pull seems like it has gotten a little better since when I first got it and once I get it fully broken in I'm sure it will be fine. All in all I think it's a pretty good pistol, and you can't beat the price.

They seem to be a decent gun from what I know of them. Having owned and carried Glocks and HK's I can't say they are in the same class however. For a decent defense gun that will rarly get used they would be fine. For a daily duty weapon, I would pass and just get a glock.
Good luck!

Don't. Sigma was S&W biggest mistake. Many were returned when they first came out. Sold to a lot of the local agencies in my area. Now no one has it as a duty weapon here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

No experience with the Sigma 40 but if it's anything like the 9mm it will not feed reloads reliabily because of a tight chamber. When I was head of security for a large corporation, I purchased 20 Sigma 9mm's for our security officer's duty issue. ALL of them has reliability problems with reloads. No problems with new rounds with virgin brass. The Glocks and Sigs we had would eat anything you fed them.

The Sigma is well made, functions flawlessly with factory ammo, and is a good alternative for someone on a budget who wants a plastic gun who doesn't want to spend the extra $100 or so for a Glock or Springfield XD.

For what it's worth,IMHO, Sig Sauer makes the best shooting 9mm semi auto pistol and is well worth the extra money. I would imagine the same holds true for the .40 cal.

The first ones that came out were junk. I have one of the newer models and it will shoot whatever I feed it. Some people may cringe but I use mine for CCW.
