Thought I would show this off a little, I am in a pic posting mood. I have had it for about 6 months and it shoots like a dream. I can't believe the trigger out of it from the performance center...breaks at 2.5lbs in the second stage. It came w/ hard case and two speed clips with upper rail and lower rail. I added a burris extreme tacticle speed dot scope w/ burris extreme tact.mount. Then I added the streamlight TRL2 laser and light to it. Mainly for the cool factor! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif But I do use the laser at the range to help me figure out what I am doing wrong with grip/trigger squeeze/trigger jerk etc. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

You wouldn't believe me how much it actually helps shooting with a lazer to actually find out what you are doing wrong with the grip/trigger squeeze with a pistol until you actually shoot one with a lazer on it. You can actually see what you are doing wrong right before you squeeze the trigger. I actually practice in the house with it empty and just squeezing the trigger and seeing my minor mistakes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
Anway it holds 8 rounds and I am used to my other revolver 629 classic holding 6 so I always forget how many rounds I have fired when shooting it. It really shows you if you are squeezing the trigger when you fire it on an empty trigger. I just keep telling myself squeeze, squeeze, squeeze on every round until it doesn't fire again. Good practice I think.

The first two low were shot at 11yds sighting in off a bench and bag. I raised it and shot the other six rounds and then another 8 shots off a bag.

These are the first shots free handed at 20 yds. The OOOPS shot is when I forgot how light the trigger was and was used to shooting my smith 629. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

These are the next 8 rounds at 20 yards free handed. This thing with a 5 inch barrel really barks. My buddies shooting next to me actually backed away due to the noise it makes.

I am heading out for a weekend coyote/bobcat hunt on friday and I am going to try to pop a coyote with this one. No one would believe me if I told you about its accuracy at the 300 meter metal target at Usary Pass Shooting range unless you were there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Dam!! That thing shoots!!!

May I ask how much did you pay for that piece??

Maybe thinking I need to sell the Taurus I just bought and get one of them S & W.

I just bought a Taurus Tracker in .357 Magnum and was wanting to use it on coyotes/deer out to 50 yards. What say you guys??

I"m a total newbie when it comes to pistols, I dont know a whole lot. I"m just using open sights and PMC 158g JSP loads, it doesn't shoot 1/2 as good at 25 yards as yours. Mine has a 4" ported barrel. I clocked the factory 158's at 1250fps. I'm getting about 4-5" groups at 25 yards. I dont think with open sights this will be a 50 yard pistol...

I am thinking about a laser/scope but dont know if the Taurus allows it??

What would you recomend for coyote/deer??

I was thinking about the 125g XTP for coyote, and the 180g Partition for deer.

yotekiller get ready it was right around a grand for it. It came in locking hard case that a gorilla would have a hard time getting into and both rails top/bottom and 2 speed clips. I am trying to find my pics at 50 yrds and 100 yrd to post them. Way too many pics of relatives/friends/hunting/fishing etc. to go through on this computer right now. When I find them I will post them. I was using the same target at 50 and 100. 50 yrds with an 8 shot group free hand was 4.8 inch group...off a bench/and bag was 3.2 inch. 100 yards off a bench/and bag wa 6.2 inch and off of a monopod was 8.6 inch group when looking back into my shooting log.
This is the first Smith that I ever bought from their performance center...well worth the money. The trigger is outstanding.
These shots were all taken with Rem. 125 jacketed hollow points.
I have tried the 158gr. Blazzers and they don't recoil as much but the groups are not as good at 50 and 100 yrds.
If you keep you shots at 50 for deer I don't see why you couldn't use the 125 grainers.

Kyotekiller you'd really be surprised how much better you can shoot a red dot equipped handgun. I do believe that Taurus makes a scope mount for the Tracker, check at their website. Here's my Ruger Super Redhawk with an Aimpoint 5000.

Pbchucker that's a really nice setup and I hope you nail a coyote with it and great shooting by the way.

I love the red dots on the big wheel guns like the Taurus Raging Bull 44 Mag. I have used the Crimson Trace Laser grips on a few other guns, but never had both red dot and laser mounted on a gun at the same time. I have an Aimpoint Micro T-1 that I can switch between My AR-15, .22 Lightning, and my Taurus. The Taurus will cut one big hole at 25 yards with my handloads.

Sokajim I really like the looks of your raging bull. What scope is that mounted onto it. I have a smith629 classic that I want to scope, just haven't found one I really like yet.

The scope shown on the Taurus is a Tasco Pro-Point. It's not a bad scope, but it's a bit large by today's standards. Imagine the Taurus with the small AimPoint Micro T-1 and you really have something light and not so bulky. I think the T-1 costs about the same as the Taurus. They do make cheaper versions (Micro H-1, R-1) that are not night-vision capable or submersable to 80 ft. So if you don't need to shoot at night under 80 ft. of water, they should do the trick. I think they all have the ACET technology that will make a standard watch battery last 5 years, even if you never turned it off.

Your Smith & Wesson looks like it would be fun to shoot, and I like the idea of having the 8 shot capacity.
