This weekend I shot a wild cat while smoking. I was sitting there for 2 hours and nothing came out so I said to myself: "I'm gonna smoke one cigarette and then I'm leaving". So I took one and while I was smoking the cat come out. I shot her with the cigarette still in my mouth. Ok a cat isn't the same as a coyote but the cats here are very cautious so I was really surprised that it didn't ran off

Ok, I've got to jump on this. How about camo cigerettes or even green smoke. Go with it, run with it, get a patent.

If they can smell your cigarette smoke, they can smell everything else you've been within 10 feet of that day as well. Just nail 'em before they get to where they can smell you, and you've got them licked.

If they can smell your cigarette smoke, they can smell everything else you've been within 10 feet of that day as well. Just nail 'em before they get to where they can smell you, and you've got them licked.
This post will come up from time to time and guys that smoke are going to smoke. Guys that wear the same shoes from home, gas up leaving a gasoline scent trail to their stand have trouble too.
Guys that live out West that can see quite a distance, can choose a stand where they can see down wind. They know that when they see a coyote working down wind, they have to kill him before it gets to his scent. Predator hunters that hunt in close cover, call in many animals that they never see because the scent carries further than their line of sight.
When I hunted in Az, over 50% of the time, I could only see 100-75 yards. I started hunting off a ladder in Az, and that is where I learned just how many animals I was calling in that were smelling me, coyotes love to circle down wind in close cover 100-125 yards out. The brush in Az was only 2 1/2-3' high, just high enough to hide a predator.
Here in SC, hunting is very close quarters with them being right in your lap, when you see them. Trying to control some of your scent and using attractants is especially important.
I don't think that the Wind is ever "My Friend" because the wind will always betray me. I really had to get serious about scent control when I started hunting in Az in areas where visability was so limited, and my success rate went up when I did take my scent more serious.
In a more serious note, I have lost some of the most precious people in my life to cigarettes:
1.Uncle Tut Wilson, one of the most precious souls on this planet, always making people laugh and spent his whole life helping people.
2.Bill Leeper, my hunting partner of many years, took me Antelope hunting, and deer hunting out West for the first time in Utah and Wyoming. We killed untold thousands of Rock Chucks in Utah and Idaho along with p. dogs up in N. Wyoming together.
3.My Brother in Law, CC Smith Jr-LAPD Detective
4.My Uncle A.D., best coon hunter in the Upstate of SC
5.Jack-no doubt the best friend that I will ever have.
All these people died of lung cancer, and forever changed my life.
I would personally like to go back in time and put a bullet in the head of the SOB that invented Cigarettes. None of these people deserved their concequences. We are deminished.....

Nobody has Ever proved Smoking causes lung cancer... And More people that do NOT smoke die from it than ones that do, Just if they smoke, it's the cause..

I hunted with one guy that smoked Swisher Sweets, we killed a lot of coyotes in Mexico with his small son at his side also. I have always wondered just how a pipe with some very sweet smelling aroma would aroma would have an effect on coyotes.
Acehandler, what they have proved on smoking is that your body can not heal it's self anywhere near as fast if you smoke. Your body is taking in Carbon Monoxide vs Oxygen. The effect of Carbon Monoxide in the body is terrible. The lungs get to where they can not absorb oxygen.
We loose Calcium everyday in our bones, smoking inhibits the body's ability to replace that calcium that we loose.
For men, the effects of smoking are tremendous. By the age of 50-55, MANY men that smoke will not be able to get an erection. No man ever speaks of this loss of their sexual ability! I learned this from a good friend that I rode mules with that smoked. He said that he wished that someone had told him this earlier in his life as his wife was a solid 10 in beauty. My friend was in a serious depression about the loss and worried about his marriage.
I could go on and on about the effects of smoking on the body, but a person has to really want to quit as the addiction is as bad as many narcotic drugs.
In as far as smoking having an effect on coyotes, another issue is worse, and that is how smoking has an effect on hunting partners in the truck. Since my wife smoked, a guy smoking in my truck did not bother me, but some of the guys in the truck would go ballistic as smoking really bothered them. So, the smoker had to wait till we pulled over for gas or we had to pull over and let him smoke. I usually hunted with a 3-4 man team. It is hard to find a good hunter, then culling out the smokers was almost impossible. It was easier to cull out the guys that were rabid about smoking.
Guys are going to smoke that smoke, go hunting, have fun, and enjoy your life.
