Snare setup (pics)

Tommy, I used to use the slider lock, it does move easier than most.Since then I went to a cam lock, but they freeze too easy and are slower than a slider or a longline lock. I prefer the longline lock now. Try this, stake out a snare as you would use it. I found with a stiff support the snare fires sooner, and if it is near 12:00 it will fire sooner. Try the lock at several locations. I found if you go farther than 11:00 to 12 it will fall in a medium wind. That is why I said 11:00, if it is a real high wind less than 11 will be better for staying up, but you will loose some of the speed. If even a sage brush or weed branch interfers with the travel of the loop it may miss all togeather, or end up with a flank catch. I would prefer to catch all animals by the neck, especially if I am fur trapping.T.20

Alot of good info guys.In most cases I use womens hair clips to hold the snare in place as opposed to wire holders. They are quicker and easy to use. Also in most cases I use a drag of some sort to prevent theft and so they won't damage the fence.Bluetrapper
