Snipe pod vs. Harris bipods.

Brennen I have not used the snipe pod , so perhaps I don't qualify to answer.

However I have used the Harris and have hunted with many others that have as well.

Personally I think that they stink for hunting coyotes, they are great when a coyote happens to appear in the right spot but really stink when they dont.

They also keep you barrel stuck up in the air like a sore thumb and I have a personal aversion to that .

I truly feel that a simple set of crossed shooting sticks that are connected with a small bolt is the berries.

I have used both products and there is no comparison as to which one I would buy. The snipe bod is by far the best choice, and only weighs 6 ounces.

I have hunted with harris bi pods and shooting sticks i have never hunted with the snipe pod. I wouldn't ever even think about hunting coyotes with out a Harris bi-pod on my gun. I keep the gun in my shoulder to keep the barrel down and to keep ready for the incoming predators. I like it a lot better then shooting sticks because with those you have to grab the sticks also when you need to switch positions you just grab your gun with a bi-pod.
That my two cents hope i helped.

I have had my Snipepod for a couple months now, and I can say that they are well worth the money. Go ahead and get ya one, you won't be sorry!!!!

Without question Harris Bi-pods.Have used them for years, give near benchrest accuracy.I have the pivoting model now makes it alot more flexible especially on uneven ground.GOOD HUNTING

I can't fathom the idea of heading out calling without my Harris Bi-Pod. Craig is right to a certain extent though. In certain areas they can be a hindrance. The legs can catch on brush. Most of the areas I hunt, the ground is clear enough to use a bi-pod. If not, I simply leave the legs folded. End of problem. I can't believe some of the shots that I have made solely because I had a bi-pod on my rifle. Like Utah said, I just leave the butt of my rifle up to my shoulder. It actually reduces the movement you have to make when a coyote is spotted. Yeah, the majority of coyotes I call are close enough to shoot without a rest or using my elbows on my knees. But with a bi-pod I am pretty certain my shot will be a hit usually. I now carry one on my deer rifle too. It has doubled my effective range. Having a rock steady rest can only be a good thing in my opinion. I have heard it said that you don't want to become dependant on a bi-pod. That's bull. It isn't about that. I can still shoot offhand just fine. Some terrain is made for bi-pods and some isn't. Kinda like shotgun vs rifle country. Certain places a bi-pod ain't handy but it's kinda like a fire extinguisher. You might not need it all the time, but when you do, it is sure nice to have.

I have not tried the Snipe-pod but it looks interesting. Whichever you choose, you will not regret having the option of having a steady rest.

Brennan,

IMHO, I have used both Snipepod and the Harris bipod. I prefer the Snipepod for calling because of the range of movement it offers, you never know which way an animal will approach.

For big game I like the Harris S Series while sitting or glassing where you may have time to prepare for the shot.

If I had to choose one? I would go with the Snipepod. Again, my opinion.

Good Luck,

Vinny

I have never used either of the two bipods mentioned above. I HAVE used a Versa-pod and think its the best thing since sliced bread. It is comparable price wise to the Harris and has all the adjustabiltiy and flexabilty I need for hunting. I have even used it to sight in instead of bags. With my 22 mag I shot 3 shots at 80 yds in about the size of a nickle.
Just my opinion!

Received my snipe pod a few days ago and it is great. Weighs 6oz. not pounds and very easy to use. I have friends who have the harris units, and all they complain about is the wt. and how bulky they are. Nothing like that with the snipe pod. I think when I show them the snipe pod, the harris will be up for sale.

Weight has never really been much of an issue as far as the bi-pod(harris)on my calling rifle goes.I don't go to far from my truck when making a stand. The only time I notice the extra weight is when I am packing all those coyotes back to the truck.

I have both the snipe pod and the Harris and the snipe pod is much better, however I have gone back to regular old shooting sticks either Stoney point steady stix or some that I made myself from aluminum tubing. I like being able to pick up my gun and move it quickly without the bi pod getting hung up in weeds and grass if I have to move on a coyote coming in from behind me. Bruce

I have both as well. I like the snipe pod if i am walking long ways. The harris seems to be a little more sturdy though. I still would choose the snipe pod first

I forked out $90 for one of those "scookem, groovy cool bi-pods" Harris type, but mine seems to be more of a hinderence then a help. I ussually set up against something and if I have the bi-pod extended I have to lift it pretty high to get it over my knees. If I set up in the edge of brush to conceal myself the bi-pod gets caught up if I try to move it. Its great if I'm hunting open areas, and can generally count on one lane of fire. Other rhen that it quite the burden and stays home more then not.

I don't think I could add any more pro's or con's to using a bipod, however I would definately recommend one for the occasions mentioned above. I had a Harris and did'nt care for the exposed springs(always hanging up on something). I am interested if anyone has tried a B-Square bipod, especially their new swivel model? Nikonut

Nikonut,
I have a B-Square on mine (rototilt) and finally got tired of having to tighten the tension screws on the swing function, so I just screwed 'em down tight. I got it on sale, thank God! I won't be buying another. I'd rather have my old Harris back. I usually use the Stoney point telescoping shooting sticks and they work really good.
So, to make a long story short, I think the B-Square is a POS.

Thanks songdogger, I was seriously looking at one of these. I've never seen one in person so I will go with your advice! Thanks again, Nikonut
