Snowmobile hunters

Chase them down and shotgun them, sounds easy enough but its not, they know where every fence is and where you cant go, not necesarily sporting but effective nonetheless

That takes care of all the call shy ones, haha, i have been told lots of storys about that going on around here back when things were worth it.

JShepard, you are right it is not sporting at all...but if they (yotes) are affecting your means to feed your family....I understand, but I respectfully disagree with it. That is the great thing about America, we are free to do what we see fit within the limits of the law.

J,shepard, I have to apologize I had this big butt-chewing written out about your pic but deleted it cuz after I wrote it I read it and discovered I sounded like a butthead! I didn't" realize you had cattle! Coyotes are apparently A whole lot bigger problem in your area then it is in our area! I agree you cant let an animal destroy your livelihood! I love to hunt and call coyotes, but I wouldn't let An animal run off with A few hundred dollers of my money in in its mouth, which is exactly whats happening when they kill your calves! especially when cattle are at such A good price, and it is legal in Montana! I am against poeple running them just for the pits-n-giggles, but not when your cattle are on the line!
My apologize,
Nodak 72

NoDak-No worries, I understand that everyone has an opinion on this and most are pretty strong. Coyotes arent a huge problem for our operation but are for some others that do more range calving, ours are up close to the house so the coyotes don't bother them much, just come in occasionaly and steal some afterbirth. Most of the problem for us is later in the year when the cows are out on pasture, the cows dont like the coyotes and it stirs them up and can have an effect on breed up and lost gain on calves.
I also love to hunt coyotes and do it year round. I have a few good decoy dogs and love to hunt them in the spring, again not for everyone, but legal here and effective in terms of population control. Our deer population has gone downhill the last few years, mainly due to a few hard winters, but coyotes do play a role on the weakened deer in the spring, especially with pups to feed, so any help they can get is to me a good thing. We wont killl them all, nobody has been able to for 100 years, there will always be coyotes to hunt. I have gone back to areas 2 days after it was run on sleds, walked in on snowmobile tracks, and called in and killed coyotes, so it doesn't ruin everything completely. While I do respect the coyotes intelligence and ability to survive I don't hold them on the pedestal that many people here do. They are not as smart as most people would have you believe or they would be much tougher to call. To me they are not some noble animal but a predator that needs to be kept in check, especially when they have an effect on your livelihood.
